I don’t recall either of the Bush presidents shutting down traffic in Kennebunkport when they went out to dinner or went shopping in town.

If I were president I’d prefer to have small dinner parties at friends’ houses and at my vacation home rather than going out to restaurants. Very nouveau of the Obamas wanting to go out to fancy restaurants and be seen in public.

I didn't grow up with that kind of money (either our own, or taxpayer money), but when our family went on family vacation - and later when I took my own family on family vacation - we actually did family things - like eat dinner together. Plus, my dad never went out by himself and his buddies and played golf for 5 hours, nor did I. I didn't start playing golf on vacation until my kids were old enough to go with me.

Why do (some) rich people have kids, especially when they seem to spend so little time with them?
