Is President Obama good for the Jews? For more and more Jewish-Americans, the answer is no.

In a Pew Research Center report issued on Thursday and entitled “Growing Number of Americans Say Obama Is a Muslim” (tragic in its own right), there was another bit of bad news for Obama: the number of Jews who identify as Republican or as independents who lean Republican has increased by more than half since the year he was elected. At 33 percent it now stands at the highest level since the data have been kept. In 2008, the ratio of Democratic Jews to Republican Jews was far more than three to one. Now it’s less than two to one.

This is no doubt a reaction, at least in part, to the Obama administration having taken a hard rhetorical stance with Israel, while taking “special time and care on our relationship with the Muslim world,” as Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, put it in June. If that sounds like courtship, it is.

(It should be noted that the Pew poll was taken before Obama’s bold support for the right of Muslims to build a community center and mosque a few blocks north of ground zero.)

Some of the president’s most ardent critics and some of Israel’s staunchest American defenders — two groups that are by no means mutually exclusive — have seized on what they see as the administration’s unfair and unbalanced treatment of Israel and have taken their denunciations to the extremes.

In September 2009, Obama went before the United Nations and declared, “America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements.”

About time they started voting for israel and israeli relations and what is good for America. i undestand why many Jews have always thought demoncrats have been the kinder, gentler group but a small back ground check of either party has so many nazis anc communists incepted into the "clans" it's sickening.

This is an opinion piece based off of faulty polling. Do you really think that life long socialists that also happen to be Jewish are just waking up one day and saying, “Oy Vey, I don’t want to be a democrat anymore so I think I’ll go vote Republican!” Not so fast my friend. The issue might be that many of the leftist brain dead Jews are PO’d that Obama is not sticking to his campaign rhetoric as they want someone who really will walk the leftist socialist line on all fronts. Obama has walked some but has deviated from others to their chagrin.
Obama will get at least 40% of the Jewish vote. 20% are Republican, 40% Democrats or socialists, and 40% are liberal leaning independents. It is the last group that is shifting.
Even liberal independents do learn. Giulliani and Bloomberg have both carried the Jewish vote in 1993, 97, 2001, 2005 and 2009. In 1997 and 2001 it was against Jewish Democrat candidates.

You are conflating Jews and liberalism. We are far more diverse than outsiders care to understand. If you want to understand why Jews vote they way they do it boils down to the assimilation and grievances of the great wave (1880-1921) immigrants and their children.
They assimilated in Progressive cities. There is a true and pathetic story about the Jewish butchers in the NRA case voting for FDR after being driven out of business, because it was considered the "American" thing to do.
Jewishness among the non-religious amounts to not being Christian in most and in some a non-religious immanentization of the eschaton through socialism etc. The last group are socialist and communist. The others are blinded by grievance politics. Grievance politics unites disparate minorities in unthinking opposition to the majority, even against rational self interest. The politics of grievance is an unthinking ersatz ethnic loyalty, wherein one defines oneself in opposition, rather than in being. It leads Jews to support political correctness, immigration of Muslims, and Third Worldism, even though these are all against their rational self interest as an Americans or as a Jews. It leads black leaders to support immigration, liberal social politics, and objectively failing education and social models.

In Judaism that is a correct statement and I believe it to be true. Does it mean we are Xtian Haters? No. It means your track record isn't very good. Muslims were not the only ones who practice conversion by the sword. Since conversion is at the forefront of Xtianity, then don't blame us for being very, very cautious if not mistrustful.

Nowadays only Fundamentalist Protestants, the least violent and least coercive sect of chr*stianity, are missionary. The ancient liturgical churches who once turned the streets red with blood have (irony of ironies) become ingrown ethnic religions that survive via sexual reproduction, just as Jews do (and they're every bit as opposed to Protestant missionaries as Jews are to chr*stian missionaries in general). Ain't that delicious? I guess what goes around comes around.
