Oy Vey, Obama (Jews leaving Democratic party)
New York Times ^ | August 20, 2010 | Charles M. Blow

Posted on 08/21/2010 3:47:35 AM PDT by reaganaut1

Is President Obama good for the Jews? For more and more Jewish-Americans, the answer is no.

In a Pew Research Center report issued on Thursday and entitled “Growing Number of Americans Say Obama Is a Muslim” (tragic in its own right), there was another bit of bad news for Obama: the number of Jews who identify as Republican or as independents who lean Republican has increased by more than half since the year he was elected. At 33 percent it now stands at the highest level since the data have been kept. In 2008, the ratio of Democratic Jews to Republican Jews was far more than three to one. Now it’s less than two to one.

This is no doubt a reaction, at least in part, to the Obama administration having taken a hard rhetorical stance with Israel, while taking “special time and care on our relationship with the Muslim world,” as Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, put it in June. If that sounds like courtship, it is.

(It should be noted that the Pew poll was taken before Obama’s bold support for the right of Muslims to build a community center and mosque a few blocks north of ground zero.)

Some of the president’s most ardent critics and some of Israel’s staunchest American defenders — two groups that are by no means mutually exclusive — have seized on what they see as the administration’s unfair and unbalanced treatment of Israel and have taken their denunciations to the extremes.

In September 2009, Obama went before the United Nations and declared, “America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements.”

If Barry thinks this is bad wait until people find out he's gay.

I think the maddest group will be the gays, when Barack is finally out or outed. They had a gay President in the 21st century and he did NOTHING for them!! (He can't -- what would his other core constituency, the Muslims, say??)

You paint with words. It helps that I had been to NYC in ‘58, but I can visualize the automat, (I loved them) the old Jewish men, day in and day out, sitting in the same spots, reading their Yiddish newspapers and speaking about a revolution that would have to be left to a much younger generation. Perhaps they were old Bolsheviks?

What a rich young life you led.

LOL. Not to be blunt, huh? I don’t expect miracles, but a good measure of common sense would seem in order. The democrat party has left the Jewish people, unless they’re happy with Obama and the heartless, obnoxious Jews like Boxer, Schumer and those two reprehensible, humans from Florida: Wasserman-Schultz and Grayson-the-mouth.

Yes, the Jewish Press but I’m seeing reports in other papers and it’s shocking me.

I even read an editorial written in a local Hadassah news-letter that was not only pro-Israel but VERY harsh against Obama and the Democrats. Hadassah has never been anything but a liberal Jewish organization as far as I know.

On another thread a freeper brought up a good point, with so many Doctors being Jewish and the health care bill that most acknowledge will destroy medicine in the US; backlash was inevitable.

When one looks at the following factors, it’s not surpising the stars have aligned, the sun is in position and more Jews are leaving the Dems.

1. Economy
2. Health Care
3. Israel and the admins treatment of Her and Bibi
4. Iran’s nuclear program
5. Russia building the reactor for Iran (not much love loss there)
6. Openly anti-Semantic statements and positions taken by the Dem.
7. The flotilla incident and an increase in anti-Jewish sentiment coming from Europe.
8. Rham Emanual, a self-hating Jew who is not liked by any except for the most liberal JINO.
9. Giving the Muslim world so much say in international relations which simply means an acceptance of Jewish hatred and holocaust denial.
10. The left went to far; speaking out for the plight of “Palestinians” was one thing, inviting and cheering for Iran’s ImmaDamNutJob inside in the US is something entirely different.

These factors are what I believe are causing a rift between Dems and Jewish voters. What else would you add?

“Allen West against Ron Klein.”

I don’t know how liberal Klein is, or how weak on Israel he’d have to be for him to lose the Jewish vote. I think that’s why Schumer is hiding undr his bed re: the Mosque issue

I think it must be very hard for liberal jews (so, most of them) to realize thry are losing their support amoungst their peers, the elites. A rude awakening, but let’s hope they DO wake up and don’t sleep thru the alarm

Klein is very liberal; he ran as a moderate but voted with Obama 99% of the time. Cap-n-Trade, Health-Care, he’s pro-Card check, etc. His approval rating has steadily declined since being elected.

Klein was also caught in a high-profile controversy regarding the Wests and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Allen and his wife Angela were asked to be honored as a South Florida Finest Couple at a charity banquet; the foundation has a history of honoring political couples, including Charlie and his ahhhemmm “wife” and even Ron Klein and his wife. Klein, had one of his supporters, a member of the foundation and good friends of the Crist’s put pressure on CFF to dis-invite the West’s; claiming they were turning the event into political theater. The CFF caved and after Allen and Angela raised well over the 10k they were asked to raise, and only a short time before the event, they were asked not to show up.

Allen being Allen, didn’t let Klein get away with this. Somehow he got emails that went to CFF from both Klein’s wife, their friends and Crist’s wife. He called out CFF publicly, demanding an apology to Angela for how she was treated and made it well know he had the emails directly implicating the Klein’s.

While one would think an incident like that would not have implications on a election; this is Boca and people do not like to be embarrassed or to be used as political pawns. By association they were involved. Many donors were disgusted at what happened and the incident is still being discussed within social circles.

Then there another situation Klein has been busted getting involved with GOP politics. Up until a few months ago, Allen was running unopposed for the GOP primary. Out of nowhere another candidate filed to run. This guy had been a Democrat up until the time he went onto the ticket. Instead of gathering signatures he simply paid a fee. Long story short, there’s connections to Klein and most likely Grayson, who keeps popping up with all kinds of shenanigans across the State.

I have not checked if Klein is on record over the Mosque issue but I can imagine it’s was a kick in the teeth when that issue took off. Klein has hitched his wagon to Obama believing that association would help him with voters. As Obama began to tank in the polls, Klein pulled back but the connection was already made. If Klein, who is Jewish, comes out in favor of the Mosque, he’ll be on the wrong side of his voters and Allen will batter him with that. If he’s against it, he goes against Obama and the DNC who is begging their people to NOT go against the President.

For Klein to win he has to win a substantial percentage of GOP and Independent voters as the district is weighted to GOP registrations. In this political climate, I don’t see that happening.

We need people like Allen in DC. I’ve known him for over a year and count him as a friend and someone I greatly admire. He would be one of the only politicians I can honestly say when he gives his word, you can bank on it.

Allen has good reasons to very optimistic about this election but he’s not counting his chickens and he takes nothing for granted. I’m also trying not to become over confident but I plan on spending election night at his campaign headquarters at the victory party and hopefully will travel up to DC in January for his swearing in!

My Jewish in laws are still more afraid of a Christian trying to Convert them than they are a Muslim trying to KILL them!! Go figure.

If the Democrats lost the Jews, all they have left is all the homosexual vote, almost all of the union vote, 90% of the Black vote, and about 60% of the Hispanic vote.

Actually, the union vote comes in two equal portions: the union employees who work for government (about half the total union population) are near unanimously Democrat. But the other half, the trade and industrial union segment, is probably split close to 50/50 (despite where the union leadership might make their contributions).

So, instead of "almost all of the union vote", only 70-75% is reliably Democrat.

Not to mention, many of the activists involved in the Russian revolution were Jewish.

Automats! I never saw one in real life, but I see them in movies from the Thirties, and they’re the coolest things.

“((( smoringbear )))”

Actually, I kinda like that alias as it has a reference (in my mind) to smores, of which I have eaten a ton two. Some none value-added trivia; my handle “snoringbear” was given to me by my oldest daughter when we joined the Indian Princess program many years ago. Having three daughters of which all three were in the Princess program, one can see how I may have consumed huge quantities of smores. Sorry for digressing. Just reminiscing back to some great times...

I LOVE LT. Col. Allen WEST!

I got to HUG him at the Tea Party, and If I could move my House a half mile, I could vote for him. BUT, I’ll just work for his campaign instead.

Jews are finally realizing that becoming what you hate to fit in does not work. No matter how hard they try, in the end, they are Jews. And the hard left hates Jews. Period.

When you get that far around, ain’t no difference. The most radical fringe of humanity isn’t right or left. They are insane. I am pretty hard rightwing myself and one of the most Jewish Jews I know.
