Klein is very liberal; he ran as a moderate but voted with Obama 99% of the time. Cap-n-Trade, Health-Care, he’s pro-Card check, etc. His approval rating has steadily declined since being elected.
Klein was also caught in a high-profile controversy regarding the Wests and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Allen and his wife Angela were asked to be honored as a South Florida Finest Couple at a charity banquet; the foundation has a history of honoring political couples, including Charlie and his ahhhemmm “wife” and even Ron Klein and his wife. Klein, had one of his supporters, a member of the foundation and good friends of the Crist’s put pressure on CFF to dis-invite the West’s; claiming they were turning the event into political theater. The CFF caved and after Allen and Angela raised well over the 10k they were asked to raise, and only a short time before the event, they were asked not to show up.
Allen being Allen, didn’t let Klein get away with this. Somehow he got emails that went to CFF from both Klein’s wife, their friends and Crist’s wife. He called out CFF publicly, demanding an apology to Angela for how she was treated and made it well know he had the emails directly implicating the Klein’s.
While one would think an incident like that would not have implications on a election; this is Boca and people do not like to be embarrassed or to be used as political pawns. By association they were involved. Many donors were disgusted at what happened and the incident is still being discussed within social circles.
Then there another situation Klein has been busted getting involved with GOP politics. Up until a few months ago, Allen was running unopposed for the GOP primary. Out of nowhere another candidate filed to run. This guy had been a Democrat up until the time he went onto the ticket. Instead of gathering signatures he simply paid a fee. Long story short, there’s connections to Klein and most likely Grayson, who keeps popping up with all kinds of shenanigans across the State.
I have not checked if Klein is on record over the Mosque issue but I can imagine it’s was a kick in the teeth when that issue took off. Klein has hitched his wagon to Obama believing that association would help him with voters. As Obama began to tank in the polls, Klein pulled back but the connection was already made. If Klein, who is Jewish, comes out in favor of the Mosque, he’ll be on the wrong side of his voters and Allen will batter him with that. If he’s against it, he goes against Obama and the DNC who is begging their people to NOT go against the President.
For Klein to win he has to win a substantial percentage of GOP and Independent voters as the district is weighted to GOP registrations. In this political climate, I don’t see that happening.
We need people like Allen in DC. I’ve known him for over a year and count him as a friend and someone I greatly admire. He would be one of the only politicians I can honestly say when he gives his word, you can bank on it.
Allen has good reasons to very optimistic about this election but he’s not counting his chickens and he takes nothing for granted. I’m also trying not to become over confident but I plan on spending election night at his campaign headquarters at the victory party and hopefully will travel up to DC in January for his swearing in!
I LOVE LT. Col. Allen WEST!
I got to HUG him at the Tea Party, and If I could move my House a half mile, I could vote for him. BUT, I’ll just work for his campaign instead.
