Ground Zero Mosque: A grass-roots movement among construction workers and unions asks Cordoba mosque supporters: Who do you expect to build it? The same people who built the World Trade Center perhaps?

In real estate, it's said the price of a property is based on three things — location, location, location. The price in blood and treasure America has paid for the gaping hole where the Twin Towers once stood is incalculable.

The wounds are still fresh and the anger is still real, and it's something that supporters of the Cordoba mosque, named after a great Islamic victory over the West, simply don't get.

Two blocks from the proposed mosque, construction workers at the WTC site are trying get across their point, and ours.

The towers of the World Trade Center instantly became symbols of America, its strength, its embrace of freedom and free markets. It was the pride of the workers who built it, destroyed in just hours by madmen who turned passenger jets into flaming cruise missiles.

William McCabe, 31, who lost an uncle on 9/11, used black marker to scrawl "WTC No Mosque" on the back of his neon construction vest in protest. "It's like spitting in the face of all the people that died," he told DNAinfo.com.

McCabe, who lives in Queens and has been working on Tower One for five months, said: "What they're going to be doing is praying and laughing because they got the mosque. My uncle's turning in his grave. It's a disgrace."

Mark Sabay, 48, of Brooklyn, who's been working on the site for two years, said a co-worker handed him a "No Mosque" sticker three days ago. He immediately affixed it to his hard hat.

Well I for one hate them.
I have been over there and it continually pisses me off that we are building over there. I get the whole hearts and minds thing but in my opinion, hind sight being what it is, I wish we would have nuked them.

The rank and file could also boycott any project the architects and engineers working on the plans for the mosque might be involved in.

If we can get the architects and engineers to boycott the project, we will really have something going to stop them. Freedom can be effective if people just say “no”!, and do not even try to explain.

Good point. Did you see Beck expressing his amazement at NYC unions. I think water bottles ended up costing $300, or something crazy like that.

Point being, they’ve so regulated everything that it’s not just expensive labor, it’s mindbogglingly unproductive labor, especially where several different union workers need to be called in to do something relatively simple.

9/11 is so seared into my mind and yet I did not know anyone who died on that fateful day.

Ditto. Yet I'm sure you will always remember every emotion you experienced on that day. I grew up in an airline family and worked in the airline industry for nearly 20 years. For many years, I lived on Long Island and knew the flight paths for most of the major carriers. I could also sense when a plane was in distress by the proximity of the sound emitted by the engines. Twice, in the darkness of night, I picked up on a plane flying too low and instinctively knew they were going down. The first was an Avianca flight from South America that crashed in Cove Neck on the north shore of LI. The second was upstate when a single engine mail carrier crashed into the parking lot of a nearby mall. One aspect of 911 that remains with me was looking up into the skies on that day and not seeing even one aircraft! It was chilling.

I am all for freedom of religion but that is not true of the Muslims. In the Middle East, where Christianity preceded Islam, our churches have been burned, our priests and ministers, martyred. In Turkey, Orthodox Churches have been closed. All of this in the name of "Allah". There is no tolerance there for any religion other than Islam. And yet these same people demand the right to build a mosque, not just in Manhattan, but within range of the very site on which christian and jewish police and firefighters lost their lives trying to save all who were in the Twin Towers. What sort of chicanery is this! And who are these fools who support their project?! When Governor Paterson offered to give them another property on which to build their mosque, they turned him down. Obviously they are not interested in a place of worship. They want to erect a monument to their "accomplishment".

Hope they're carded. Try jumping the line as a scab, especially there. I've run a few lines and worked union( nursing, food workers in college and construction when I got out my first degree) and it might get a BIT rough.

Plus if it ever gets to the foundation stage I want nancy Pelosi to find an endangered mousey( harvest mouse? that cut off all central valley water to GOOD farmers)...and once the framing starts, if it ever does, I'm sure there will be a few arson attacks and people screaming"ululululululululululu," like they did to us when nary a muslim soul apologized, nope they celebrated. When intolerant people ask for tolerance it the appropriate time to make the issue about THEM.

Explore their motives and compare their request to the lack of tolerance in the muslim world. Why do they want to build on top of GROUND ZERO? There is nothing tolerant about that.

It is nothing more than a muslim Mt. Surabachi. If we allow it to be built this symbol will be to the 21st century what the flag raising at Iwo Jima was to the 20th century.

I was told the front of this mosque with have the same architectural design as the towers. If this is true it won’t stand long. People have had enough of this and I am sure people will retaliate. I fear for this country.

It was a UNION that organized roday’s protest in NYC against the mosque. Andy Russell, the coordinator, flat out said on Fox News that if ANY scabs, (HIS WORDS,) tried to build that thing, there would be more trouble than they could handle.
