A growing number of New York construction workers are vowing not to work on the mosque planned near Ground Zero.
"It's a very touchy thing because they want to do this on sacred ground," said Dave Kaiser, 38, a blaster who is working to rebuild the World Trade Center site.

Funny thing about trying to “go non-union” in a major city. You can’t get material. Concrete truck drivers are all union. You are going to have a hard time erecting and operating your tower crane. Mechanical and electrical Master Journeymen are needed on code certified work — good luck finding open shop subs that employ more than one or two. Most truckers won’t cross a picket there as well.
I have fought this battle in cities a lot smaller and it is pretty easy to loose.
They’ll do whatever their union bosses tell them to do. And the RATs will tell the union bosses to tell their wage slaves to build it. Or else.

I've been saying for weeks, the FDNY will find 1 violation per day...with the absolute maximum days in between for response and re-inspection...for several thousand days.
ONLY a Federal Civil Rights Suit against the FDNY will get this thing built.

On a side note regarding union labor: Are FReepers generally against all unions? My thought is for skilled trades, where apprenticeship is necessary to ensure the worker has the requisite skills to do the job safely and accurately is not a bad thing.
I don’t know if wages in those trades go up as rapidly as government workers, which might be a factor against how bargaining contracts are negotiated, but there really seems a legitimate reason for them.
Unskilled work and paper pushing jobs do not seem to have the same merit as skilled trades.
Be curious to know others opinions.

Construction of a mosque at Ground Zero is a declaration of defeat by NYC. If that’s what they want to do, surrender to Muslim jihadis, there won’t be much anyone can do about it. This is the kind of thing that happens in a war—you lose battles, some of your allies lay down their arms and capitulate, the enemy takes chunks of your land, that’s just the way it is. This is NYC’s decision. I’m not gonna get all that worked up about what is essentially a communist entity caving in to Islam. As long as they don’t let the door hit them in the butt on their way to Shariah...

I’m sure Ali Baba Bloomberg will green light the Saudis importing slave labor from countries like Pakistan to come in and build it as they do in their own country.
This will go down in history as one of the only construction projects the dems didn’t support unionzed labor on.

Just turn NY into a right to work state. Fire all union workers and make them reaaply for their jobs. Or just threaten them with this.
FR’s tend to be against unions who force members thru their dues to financially support political causes that may violate members’ free will and consciences. Since the senior leadership of the big unions all support Libs and Democrats, you can understand why FR’s look askance at unions. Unions are also tone deaf when it comes to the financial fortunes of a company, asking for pay packages that sap the overall competitiveness of a company in bad economic times while giving no guarantees that union members will increase efficiency and performance. Unions were good in their infancy but now they have grown up to be 10 foot alligators!
