America... the land of the free and the home of the brave. At least that's what we hear when we sing the National Anthem.
Wait... are we still allowed to sing that song and express our patriotism? I know we are still the home of the brave, but it's become clearer that we are no longer the land of the free. Just ask "former" middle school football coach Bryan Glover, who wrote a song about Barack Obama and sent it to people on his e-mail list. Where did this expression of free speech land him?
The unemployment line, that's where.
As reported by OneNewsNow.com, Glover, a 26-year-old Christian, co-wrote the song "When You're Holding a Hammer, Everything Looks Like a Nail." The song "takes a dig at the current administration and what he believes to be the wrong moves for the U.S." According to the report, Glover sent the song to everyone in his personal e-mail list, "which included parents from Grassland Middle School, where he coached football."
That's when the trouble began. Within 90 minutes of sending out the song, Glover heard from his head coach that parents were asking that Glover be fired.
"When the coach first called me, he said his phone was blown up with parents saying that I was being politically incorrect -- quote, unquote -- if you will, and that some of them were even reading into racial overtones in the song," Glover explains.
Listen to the song for yourself and see if there is ANY reference to race in it at all. Why do people have to knee-jerk and claim racism just because someone doesn't like Obama? It's because they are so enamored with him and his socialist programs that they think anyone who doesn't like him must be a racist.

While I agree with the sentiment in the song you just cannot send out stuff like that and expect no reprecussions. He messed up.
This guy may have a lawsuit.
Not very smart sending it out to the parents of the kids he coached. One or two of them was probably not going to approve.
People do stupid things with email and the internet.
Will this song be out on CD in time for Christmas?
Did he use his school’s email to send this out? He should have known better. I agree with the song, but I think he DID mess up if he used his work email (public school=government school).
One thing is sure. This guy is a White guy. Otherwise he would be whistling a happy tune.
There is no “free speech” in the USA. You can lose your job over words that you say.
“While I agree with the sentiment in the song you just cannot send out stuff like that and expect no reprecussions. He messed up.”
That’s what I thought at first ... but I don’t know ... this is pretty mild criticism. He even works in a jab at Joe Biden’s obscenity into an open mike (Big Freaking Deal) and overall I thought it was pretty clever. A lot milder than I thought it would be given the fact he was FIRED.
Do Americans have freedom of speech and expression? His position had no connections to the classroom.. I think he should sue
Oh...now that I read further, guess he used his PERSONAL email-—in that case...just wow.
Great News for all those who want greater Parental and Local Control of their public schools.
New tag line.
“Will this song be out on CD in time for Christmas?”
Got some bow tied bum kissers you want to send it to?
Sell the rights to the song and watch it go viral.
Or heck just let some talented people do it on YouTube on their own.
I’d demand to face my accusers,
and have them explain what about the song was “racist”
and “politically incorrect”.
I guess “politically incorrect” would be any dissent whatsoever IF WE LIVED IN THE SOVIET UNION.
These people would call a jelly donut racist.
So, we have a 26-year-old assistant football coach who is quite creative and who is tired of Obama and his policies. He writes a song, and, as the new report indicates, he sends a link the song to everyone in his "personal e-mail list." Thus, he wasn't taking class time or practice time to tell students about his political views. He was on his on time, with his own computer, sending to his own list. And now he is fired?
Come on people! If you don't like it, complain to the man directly. Ask him to take you off his list or something. But this is just crazy.
How did he mess up? How is this different from if he had emailed a critical letter to the local newspaper? Teachers have a right to do these things and not be fired. I haven’t listened to the song; is it obscene? Racist? If not, then this school maybe opening itself up to legal trouble.
You do not have the right NOT to be offended in this country.
Free speech is between you and the government. It is not - or at least it should not be - between you and your employer.
