LOS ANGELES – Mexican-American actor Richard Anthony "Cheech" Marin is slamming the Arizona immigration law as little more than an attempt to hold on to “white culture.”
“It’s ridiculous; it’s the last gasp of white culture,” he told Pop Tarts at the Los Angeles launch last week of Disney Pixar's online "World of Cars." “Reactionaries and Congress (are to blame) only because they think that's the way of getting votes. We'll stir up the rabble! If you take the Mexicans out of Arizona, Arizona is going to collapse the next day.”
But it’s not only the immigration law with which Marin takes issue. The "Up in Smoke" star would also like to see marijuana legalized.

Like a lot of folks, he has a hard time distinguishing between hispanic Americans and illegal border jumpers. If the illegal border jumpers stopped jumping the border, Arizona is not going to collapse. They’ll be fine.
He is guilty of doing what he accuses Arizonans of doing, which is lumping all people together based on their ethnicity. Hispanic Americans aren’t illegals. They know the difference, Mexican nationals know the difference, and so does everyone else. Its quite easy to exclude the illegals with no harm or insult to the citizens.
He’s actually a very bright guy. I expected more from him.

It was and is very adolescent humor. Most of us benefit from the fact that our brains mature as we get older, and continue to mature long after our bodies do. Most adults adults find their humor to be chaotic and jarring rather than funny — unless said adult is still smoking dope after 30 years.
He’s half right. There’s nothing in the Constitution that gives the feds the authority to do any more than tax pot, and license the producers.
