(WXYZ) DEARBORN, Mich. - Fordson High School football is accustomed to the spotlight, but its usually because of their championship teams. This time theyre in the headlines because of their practice schedule.
For the first time in over two decades the Muslim holy month of Ramadan fell during an intense stretch of pre-season practice. Because most of the team is Muslim, and Muslims cannot eat or drink during daylight during Ramadan, the football coach decided to move practices to the middle of the night.

After reading your profile, I understand.
I so agree! How these journalists get through elementary school, much less college, is beyond me.
“We are better than that.”
We are in a battle for survival with Muslims worldwide. They take a little and then take some more. They will use the freedoms we give them to attack us while smiling.
“However, many HS teams do have practice on Saturdays .... so why not Sundays?”
Probably very few, this is a cultural norm for America. Saturday and Sunday are traditionally days off. Originally this was because Sunday was a day of rest but not so much any more.
How many football teams give their players time off for prayer?
“Yeah, but what did that old man know anyway, right?”
OH he was very intelligent as were the majority of the founding fathers. That is why they saw Muslims as a threat.
You know, if your sensitivities are such that an extra “’” really bothers you that much, you should probably take a laxative and stay away from FR.
99.99999% of us know the person made a mistake. 0.00001% of us feel the need to lord it over them.
“Yes, I have come to FR today, to help the little people. It’s my self-appointed duty in life.”
T-Bird45, seriously...
I would agree. The concession that makes Jewish kids unable to participate is an excellent idea. And you don’t even have to mention the word Jew as you deny them access. Cool... /s
“Because most of the team is Muslim”.....????
Someone help me out here....What the hell is going on in Detroit?
In the 2000 census, Arab Americans comprised 30% of Dearborn’s population; many have been in the city for generations. More Iraqi immigrants have been arriving as refugees from the continued war in their country since 2003. The majority of recent Arab immigrants are Muslims. In the first half of the twentieth century, it was predominately Christian Arabs who immigrated to Metro Detroit. Lebanese descendants comprise the largest proportion of Arab Americans in Dearborn.[5]
I imagine the percentage is much higher now.
Good for them. It’s a team. When your kid is playing on a team, there comes a time when the entire team sacrifices for that one player. Whether it’s religion, schedule or whatever else.
There are games on TV on Christmas eve and Easter Sunday. Never heard anyone complain. When Sandy Koufax didn’t play because it was Yom Kippur, the fact the major league baseball would even have a game on Yom Kippur could be labeled deplorable.
It’s the bitching and moaning that comes from things like teams not being allowed to pray in the locker rooms or the national anthem not being played before games which hurts youth sports.
This is a nothing deal. Let it be.
So a lot of black kids are devote Muslims?.....Where is this heading?
I didn’t bring up the topic. If an issue is raised, I think it’s best to put all the cards on the table.
I do find it interesting that this nation is being changed due to the presence of people who have no intention of being Americanized.
So we all shuffle along ignoring the obvious. One day we’ll wake up a Muslim nation, because we were so gloriously indifferent.
Do you think we should adopt Sharia law here? You know that’s where we’re headed don’t you? Is that a good thing?
My late wife had a cousin who was a cop in Dearborn. I was talking to him at a family reunion maybe 10 years ago. He said Dearborn was the biggest mess on the planet. Lots of money, many of the ME kids drove expensive German cars and were involved in the drug trade. They considered themselves to be above the law and the place was just a completely foreign culture.
He really really wanted out of Dearborn.
That seems fair to me. But making this accommodation to Islam is not in the spirit of "fair for all".
“Do you think we should adopt Sharia law here? You know thats where were headed dont you? Is that a good thing?”
We are not headed for Sharia law because of the Muslims. We are headed for Sharia law because of the Leftwing of this country.
The camel popped his head into the tent and the Liberals are saying “come on in.”
“That seems fair to me. But making this accommodation to Islam is not in the spirit of “fair for all”. “
I agree. However this isn’t the case in Dearbornistan.
Say listen, you do know the Bush policy on this don’t you? If I’m going to agree that the left has it’s head up it’s posterior, you need to come half-way and agree that the Left includes a lot of folks on our side too.
Yes, the camel popped it’s head into our tent, and our party was just as eager to kiss it’s posterior as anyone else.
Bush agreed to increase the Saudi Student Visa program to 30,000. That’s 30,000 people for us to keep tabs on, and we both know that will never happen.
We are ripe for being hit again, and we kid ourselves otherwise.
I agree. My philosophy has always been that the Communists are using radical Islam to destroy our Republic as well as liberty for all people.
We have moderates who are too clueless to see what is going on and that is what scares me.
Thanks EQAndyBuzz. The Moderates scare me too. They aren’t moderate. They’re closet Leftists.
As for the Russia connection, I’m not sure it’s justified to give an entity credit for something we have striven to achieve for our selves.
Why would Russia need to engineer this when our clueless bastards are so damned self-destructive, that they sign on to this stuff all on their own?
Non-sequitor. No where in this article does it indicate that there is 'time off' for prayer. All that his happening, is that the coach is scheduling practice for when "most of the team" can participate.
