NEW ORLEANS -- Five years after he documented the horrors of Hurricane Katrina, Spike Lee returned to New Orleans with his new movie showing the city's agonizing efforts to return to normal.

The premiere Tuesday included hours one and four of the HBO documentary, "If God Willing and Da Creek Don't Rise."

"The first hour was very, very emotional," said Sharon Starks, 53, who said she had a purse full of tissues after seeing the first Lee film on the hurricane. "But the second hour I was just angry. It was about the BP oil spill and I just felt they came along and violated us on top of everything else."

Agonizing efforts to return to normal ?

Who wants that place to return to normal ? If that happens, I’ll personally shut down the pumps and let it fill up.

The NOLAn claimed “BP violated us”. Sounds like rape, a deliberate act.

Meanwhile Barack Hussein Obama DID violate the Gulf region by DENYING plans to clean things up sooner. Skimmers were not permitted to go to work and other changes were not authorized by the Feds.

The banking collapse was an exhibit of willful neglect by Jamie Gorelick, Barney Frank, and others, as well.

Inside Man? It was a group of Jews trying to get back money that was stolen from them by a German Industrialist.

...or Charley, or Ivan, or Dennis, or Frances or any number of storms that destroyed much more infrastructure and private property. These people in New Orleans are nothing more than moochers. Bush dumped 5 billion dollars int that place and where the hell did it go? We could have built luxury brick townhouses for every family in the Ninth Ward and saved a few billion..............

I watched the whole thing last year and came to the conclusion that Spike Lee's film would have been better and more accurately entitled "How Come Nobody Ain't Did Nothin'?".

Surprised he didn't release it just before the elections in October and get stir up some more racist controversy for the voters down there.

Hello, There were more people affected by Katrina than the 9th Ward and New Orleans East. But, the only stories you hear about are the tragic stories from the Black population - the poor whites are still out there trying to survive and restore too but too bad for them - wrong color! I am not a racist but some things just aren't right. I have friends who lost everything and are STILL waiting to come home. Yeah, and try to get a government agency to help you if you are white - nope back of the line please! A small store owned by Vietnamese was totally looted next to the causeway where all those poor people waited to get rescued. Guess what was stolen? About $180,000 worth of GOOD booze and cigarettes. Nothing cheap, mind you - top of the line liqueur, brandy, scotch etc. HEY, MSM AND SPIKE DID YOU EVER COVER THAT STUFF!
Our streets were flooded and we had looters running through the streets - thank God for the national guard. I know that in every catastrophe there will be those who take advantage of others but I am growing weary of the same stuff for 5 years now. Suffering was all over the coast! The block where I was raised in Mississippi is GONE! My neighbors GONE! Sorry for the vent!

Katrina was as much a failure of the governed as it was the government...

“All of the people with real character flaws were white and male. All of the genuine, good, wise, moral people were ‘black.’”

...this is fairly common now days with Hollywood too...during the course of the film the ‘wise’ negro schools poor ole Whitey and helps him become ‘a better person’

All of the people with real character flaws were white and male. All of the genuine, good, wise, moral people were ‘black.’

Clive Owen, a white man, was the almost-total hero of Inside Man.

He risked his life and freedom not just for money, but to punish a truly evil man and to help out his loved ones. He did his best during a very dangerous caper to minimize violence and avoid loss of life.

Denzel Washington, one of only two prominent African-American characters, is strongly hinted to be - although charming and likable - a fundamentally amoral character who used his badge to enrich himself and blackmail to promote himself.

Not that I would ever watch a Spike Lee film, but I wonder if it will show the resources brought to bear - unprecidented in the history of the world - within 96 hours of the disaster...to care for people in a disaster that occurred after the punditry had said New Orleans dodged a bullet.

Lee’s ‘25th Hour’ is also centered around a fundamentally moral white guy. It’s one of my favorite American films of the decade. He’s at his best when he isn’t writing or acting but just adding directorial N.Y.C. atmosphere and attitude ala Sidney Lumet.

Ummm, those cities were bombed because of a race war the Germans started.

And those cities were rebuilt using American money.

Oh wait, you’re talking about World War ELEVEN. My bad.

...Lee has it wrong again...the saying that he rips off is: “Lord willing and the Creeks don’t rise”...this is an old rural Georgia expression....in the early 1800s, the Creek indian tribe occupied most of what is south Georgia and Alabama...every so often they’s rise up and raid frontier settlements...finally the government had enough and sent General Andrew Jackson subdue them for good.

....the origions of such historic sayings are way beyond the ken of an urban negro like Lee...but posers like to appropriate them for their own use from time to time...kinda like when MLKing’s coffin was borne on the back of a mule drawn wagon...as if he’d actually ever worked picking cotton!
