Fox News host Glenn Beck: Some unemployed 99ers should be ashamed to call themselves American
New York Daily News ^ | 8/17/10 | Aliyah Shahid

Glenn Beck has a message for the chronically unemployed: You're a bunch of un-American losers. The Fox News host thinks some 99ers — those who have used up their 99 weeks of unemployment benefits—should be embarrassed to call themselves Americans (Snip) "Go out and get a job," said Beck. "You may not want the job. Work at McDonald's. Work two jobs. There has been plenty of times in my life I've done jobs I hated, but I had no choice. Two years is plenty of time to have lived off your neighbor's wallet."

What's really rich about his comment is the fact that you can listen to his show and hear him "get paid" to tell people that an economic armageddeon is coming so buy gold, buy seeds....save yourselves.....blah, blah, blah. But if people are having serious trouble finding jobs in this *gasp*panic*freakout* economy, they are deadbeats.

He'll take a buck to say anything, apparently.

As for applying for a job you are overqualified for, if you can, leave off some of the information on your application/resume. It's one thing to lie and say you've never been to prison or purchased a fake degree. But honestly, no one at McDonald's has to know (or cares) if you have a Master's degree in XXX. Sometimes less is more with those types of job applications.

Thank goodness I am not looking for work, but I know several unemployed people who are hand carrying their resume just as you said- that is when they are being told there are no actual openings, and are often told the person that does the hiring has no idea why corporate is advertising jobs in their area when there are none.

Admin Moderator?

That seems to me a ridiculous and inappropriate comment from an Admin Moderator.

Take the (understandable) emotion, pain, panic and fear out of the equation for just one fleeting moment, and one soon realizes that Freedumb is offering sage advice that will lead to, and protect, a better life for those currently unemployed.

Freedumb, so many people do not have your ability to read economic trends sufficiently in advance to see and act on opportunities that are emerging everywhere.

In my experience, good and honorable people who are not playing the system simply don’t know how to move forward - they are literally paralyzed by fear.

They plead for empathy, understanding, kind words and a loving touch, and completely misinterpret any other approach.

If it were my choice, I would suggest an Admin Moderator position would be opening shortly.

I have been saying for months now, the next president should propose (and work to get passed) legislation that would ELIMINATE the corporate income tax for any company that manufactures its work product here in the US. Lots of loopholes would have to be eliminated, of course.

But corporations merely collect taxes; they don’t pay them. They also spend a boatload of money on accountants to steer them away from being exposed to taxes. That money, plus the small amount taken from them in corporate taxes could be used for investment in infrastructure and hiring.

We cannot compete internationally on the basis of wage alone; we’ll lose every time. But we can offer stable national infrastructure, protection of intellectual property, a (mostly) stable justice system, seamless access to the largest economy in the world, etc.

I don’t have the numbers to back it up, but something tells me that a huge number of employers relocating here (without being punished by our tax code), and all those employees paying taxes would far outweigh any loss of corporate tax.

Just my two cents.

Clearly I do, since I am employed. Maybe you should try it.

Are you seriously that much of a dick? You are incredibly arrogant.

The last time I applied for a job I “dumbed” down the application. No resume submitted at all.

I didn’t brag about what I now call my “past-life,” but did focus on the skills needed for the job applied for.

I got the job.

I didn’t lie, just didn’t feel they needed to know I decommissioned several nuclear reactors. Seriously...LOL.

I appreciate the advise. I've received the exact same advise (some through PM’s) and I guess that's the route I'm going to be taking. Thanks for taking the time to make the suggestion.

I’ve never been unemployed for more than 9 days since graduating high school.

There were times I didn’t work for someone else, but I hit the pavement and did contracting work. I didn’t even have a pickup truck, but I built decks, mowed lawns, dug fence posts, cleaned pools, drove trash trucks and septic tank pumpers, you know, whatever it takes to feed the babies.

With all due respect, you can’t make a blanket statement like that, neither can Beck. I got laid off in October of 2008 and have sent out Resumes almost daily for professional jobs. I have had two interviews since 10/2008. One of the interviews was for an entry level position (I have 35 years of experience).

I can’t do many lower level jobs due to disabilities. So I am stuck until I get a job that I can do. If you think I am happy to sit at home making 15% of what I was making, you are an Idiot. That is idiot with a capital I.

ok, Bozo, apply for those 50 positions and see how many interviews you get. I bet you get ZERO. People like you that think your crap doesn’t stink need to learn a little humility. Hopefully, you won’t have to learn it the hard way.

The amount show is the maximum amount based on the highest wages of the last 4 quarters you worked.

The father was layed off also and doing side jobs just to get by and gives her what he can. I remember at Xmas last year a local charity came and brought the kids presents and filled up her pantry. Her kids are 4 and 6 so they have to go to day care when she works and thats not cheap. also lives in a very small town about 40-50 miles outside Dallas so it’s not like she can take anything more than a 30 minute drive either because of the price of gas and has to make sure she’s able to pick her kids up on time.
There’s always lots of factures involved with everyone.
I think untill this government gets thrown out of office we just all need to help pitch in and help out our families and friends in these tough times because this govt is doing everything they can do to destroy all of us.
