What kind of doctor is this woman, and why is she still on the radio?
After scrubbing her show's website of the foul rant that prompted outrage -- and lives on in audio and transcript form on Media Matters for America -- Laura Schlessinger apologized. "I articulated the N-word all the way out -- more than one time," she said. "And that was wrong."
Show's over; time to move on? I don't think so.
Professional to professional, Dr. Laura, let Dr. Mary explain why, as offensive as it was, saying the N-word is the least of your problems.
A young black woman calls into your show to get some actual advice about a specific problem: her white husband's family and friends insult her using racist terms and epithets. "My husband ignores those comments, and it hurts my feelings," the caller says.
So, of course, Dr. Laura, you start talking about -- President Barack Obama.
"Without giving much thought, a lot of blacks voted for Obama simply 'cause he was half-black," she said. "Didn't matter what he was gonna do in office, it was a black thing. You gotta know that."
Not only do you ignore the caller and change the subject to get to something that's obviously on your mind and in your heart, Dr. Laura, but you also insist you know the motivation of millions of black voters.
It's not the first time I've heard this ridiculous canard that black people voted for the president based simply on skin color. It assumes that only voters who aren't African-American use logic, reasoning and rational thought before reaching a conclusion. Maybe, just maybe, most African-American voters preferred the policies in the Democratic Party's platform. Did they vote overwhelmingly for Bill Clinton because they liked his smile?

It doesn’t “beg the question,” it raises the question. If a so-called journalist doesn’t know the basic logical fallacies, then the rest of the his/her thoughts are equally vapid.

90+ percent isn’t persuasive that the vote was completely based on skin color? Who is proposing a canard here? Anyone who says Blacks voting for obama wasn’t completely racially-based are using the Bugblatter Beast defense: It is so stupid that it thinks that if you can’t see it, it can’t see you.
Liberals are so dumb there isn’t even a measurement tool available to plumb the depths.
“Dr” Laura (PhD in gym) is really a worthless collection of overstretched, worn out skin. She should only hope she’s best remembered for the porn she did and not for her advice, personality, or demeanor.
“Begs the question” used improperly, yet again, by someone who I’m sure considers herself quite sophisticated, thank you....

Dr. Laura leans conservative, so I’ll take a talk radio personality who is a Righty over a leftist any day. We need more conservative voices in the media.
I suspect that the only reason Dr. Laura’s is being attacked here is because she is to the right of Mary.
I have listened to Dr. Laura for a number of years and she always understood the psychological needs of children, which was her forte. She had extremely sound and logical analysis of family situations.
I find the vitriol spewed at her and her “knowledge” has always come from two groups. Homosexuals and feminazis. It is because she believes in the natural rights of children (meaning they need to be raised by their biological mother and father) and believes that feminists and homosexuals are two extremely selfish groups who always put their profession or sexual lives on a higher level than the psychological and emotional needs of children.
Most damage to children has been done because of promiscuity, abandonment, and divorce and the emotional damage has been noted in suicides, drug use, out of wedlock births, and no ability to establish long term relationships.
She can not tolerate anyone who abuses children, and, like I said, her advice was always in the best interest of the child.

Actually 96% of the blacks voted for Dumb’O vs 80-85% that typically vote for white liberal candidates. But the real test of whether blacks vote for black candidates would be if some conservative like Thomas Sowell were to run. What percentage of black votes do you think he’d get if he were up against a white liberal like say Ed Kennedy?
I would guess it would be well below 50%.
I believe that politics (self interest) trumps everything - race, gender, religion.... Most blacks have been brainwashed into thinking that liberals care more about them than conservatives, so they will always vote for a liberal over a conservative, even if the conservative is black.

I suspect you are right. Her commentary is generally pretty common-sense and always relates back to the best interests of the children.
The fact she spoke FACT about blacks voting for the TOTUS reader is unfortunate. Some facts should not be uttered.

PC has fully saturated public discourse. Dr. Laura can speak her mind. She wasn’t hurling ad hominems, as her Leftist counterparts typically do. Dr. Laura was stating a fact. If the liberals wish to continue their effort to extinguish civil public discourse, by all means, knock yourselves out.
I salute Dr. Laura for her courage. She possesses more of it than many a Republican politician.

I'm sorry, but a group of voters who self identify by race and vote 95% for a party that continually undermines their individual pursuit of happiness, aren't applying logic and reason when voting.

She has a nationally syndicated show worth millions and has published a slew of books that have probably pulled in the tens of millions.
I will take a run and suggest you have not achieved anything close. You probably just work 9-5 in a decent and maybe rewarding job that feeds you and your family. That is my situation so feel free to tell the truth.
Or are you a fabulously successful author who is is lurking and not letting any of us know of your true identity?

The woman is a fraud. She purports to give family advice while she is estranged from her own; is sanctimonious about relationships while she herself has been a serial adulterer and home-wrecker; and is highly critical of those whose moral standards are beneath her own even though she posed nude for her then-married boyfriend and was pregnant at her own second wedding. I wouldn’t wipe with a picture of her.

When I heard her apology today I sort of felt the same. But I never heard the original material so I just couldn’t (nor can) offer an opinion...

Anybody who votes based on skin color is a racist. Doesn't matter the color of the voter.
If you equate monetary success with intelligence, then I guess you haven’t been paying very close attention to the last 50 or 60 years of American culture. HL Mencken said it best: “Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”
