The left has collapsed.
Its political support has collapsed. Public opinion polls point to a historic repudiation of the president and the Democratic party this fall, something on the order of a 60-seat Republican gain in the House. The GOP has an outside shot at taking the Senate as well.
Its claim to intellectual integrity has collapsed. Paul Krugman, Ivy League professor, New York Times columnist and Nobel laureate (the holy trinity of the liberal establishment), has humiliated himself with a startlingly dishonest attack on Paul Ryan's budget proposal. Krugman, called out by Ryan, rebuked by honest analysts and unwilling to concede his errors, has retreated into uncharacteristic abashed silence.
Its Leninist discipline has collapsed. Last week, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs complained about the craziness of the professional left in the punditocracy. "Those people ought to be drug tested," Gibbs explained. "They will be satisfied when we have Canadian health care and we've eliminated the Pentagon. That's not reality. ... They wouldn't be satisfied if Dennis Kucinich was president."
Members of the professional left hit back at Gibbs, dubbing the Obama White House the "amateur left."

They are like a nest of fire ants that has been poked with a stick. Time to call in the ANDRO strike. Obama is the Queen.
They can do all sorts of damage, but we can always undo it and rebuild. And, people are fed up and horrified with the thought of supporting more moochers, like illegals.
“Everything about socialism is sham and affectation.” - Frederic Bastiat 1801-1850
It never once crossed their minds that a good chunk of their support came from people who actually expected them to live up to their campaign rhetoric
These are not dangerous but endangered... political suicide comes to mind.
Dems are desperate and in panic mode.
They realize the outlook is grim for them.
Conversely, the republicans should be wary about taking voters for granted and becoming overconfident.
Conservatives must make and take their case to the American people and the voters why they are best suited to turn the economy around. If they can do that and make it stick, they will win and win big.
Gotta take issue with the Weekly Standard here.
The Visible Elected Left is currently under assault. But they hold - for now - the govt and the *bureaucracy.* Plus, the hard-core invisible workers on the extreme left haven’t stopped or even slowed down.
This notion that the “left” or “liberals” or “progressives” are beaten is HOGWASH. BS. Garbage. Etc.
We must not believe this for a moment. We need to continue recruiting “overwhelming force” at the ballot box and in ALL local and regional elected offices and bureaucratic jobs.
That’s what the left has done for 50 years and what we need to do in 8 years or less.
Don’t wimp out Weekly Standard. And don’t peddle the notion that this war is anywhere NEAR completion. We’re just about to start round two, NOT 15.
That’s not reality. ...
That’s where liberals live in unreality. Socialism has never worked but they keep giving it a go - thus still proving the definition of insanity.
Oh what a low blow. *snicker*
The left needs to be put down. Along with islam.
Of course it includes their insufferable arrogance in which they see the world as filled with either enemies or useful idiots. Neither one deserves to be told the truth. You see, they know that the whole system is corrupt and only they can bring it to righteousness. They must break some eggs to make this omelette but the soufflé will be divine.
They know it's hard to sustain an anti-democratic ethos in a democracy. They realize they've degenerated into pro-am levels of whining and squabbling. So they curse their opponents.
Liberals envision themselves as such proponents of the arts. Their "F*ck Tea" project certainly illustrates that they're anything but artful. Here's another example of why the @ss is such a perfect moniker for progressives.
They are on the gravy train and will fight to keep it.
What really needs to happen is to get an administration that will pass some sort of law to limit govt workers to the national median income. Good luck on that, I know, but we gotta try.
Working for the govt is WAY too attractive to people right now. High wages - double the median income - and you don't get fired. This has to stop ASAP.
This notion that the left or liberals or progressives are beaten is HOGWASH.
Don’t you think that they’re being systematically disarmed of their favorite weapons (e.g., use of the tools, “intolerance,” “racism,” etc.) Who cringes at the thought of those words any more? Seems like they’re losing ground. Granted, they haven’t been crushed yet, but they’re circling the drain. Eternal vigilance is necessary. We’ve had it so good for so long that some of us have become complacent. To quote Carrie Underwood’s current hit, “I wanna undo it!”
Yes!
