Rebuild the church....First!
Nine years after 911, St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at Ground Zero remains to be rebuilt. Brother, can you spare a little fast-tracking?
So, New York big-shots can fast track a Muslim mosque near the site of the attacks on New York and the destruction of the WTC and the little Greek Orthodox church that was crushed when the South Tower fell but in all this time they cant seem to find the wherewithal to allow this little house of worship that served not only the Greek community but welcomed anyone who felt the need to find a little peace and solitude amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.
More about the delays and red tape plague the rebuilding of St. Nicholas.
From Churchs Troubles Typify Ground Zero Delays:
The story of the tiny St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and its efforts to rebuild after the collapse of the World Trade Center is one of well-intentioned promises that led to endless negotiations, design disputes, delays and mounting costs.
In addition, Charles V. Bagli, the reporter on the NY Times story above, points out: The church has for several years wanted to build the new St. Nicholas a block northeast of its original home on Cedar Street. But doing so would require trading land with the Port Authority, and an agreement has proven elusive.
Disgusting.
Me thinks His Honor is a weasel.
Ask the Death Mosque Imam for the funds to rebuild the Christian church.
How neighborly! I’m sure the muslims would embrace such ecumenical outreach.
I think that you need to give a sincere apology to weasels.
They have NOT spit in the face of New Yok and America like Bloomberg has.
the New York Times story is from 2008. Has there been any progress with getting it built or is it still in limbo?
A decade has 3653 days, the united states has 2.3 billion acres, and 1209 mosques. Yet by coincidence the 1210th mosque will be built on the 10 year anniversary right next to ground zero.
Good read. Thanks
You’re welcome! Pass the link along :)
It’s still in limbo
Here is the link to the NY Times article referenced. It is from 2008!
As you mentioned: Bloomberg.........ask him why the GZ victory mosque has been fast tracked as compared to the St. Nicholas church.... =.=
This story should be re-worked and Madeline’s pix included in the post, suggested title; “Nevermind The GZ Mosque Where Is The Church of St Nickolas ? and inserted into every GZ Mosque posting
Glenn Beck had a caller on just about 15 minutes ago asking about this church and my phone rang so I didn’t hear what Glenn said to him......did anyone hear it?
Another FREEPER mentioned that there is already a MOSQUE in Downtown Manhattan Area close to ground zero to serve the Muslim Community there. So the question we should all have for Mayor Bloomberg is this:
Why is this new MOSQUE being built?
I won't hold my breath for an answer.
'Both St. Nicholas and the Port Authority are eager to resolve the issues quickly, especially since the authority plans to pick a contractor to build the southern perimeter wall for the entire site this summer, and it needs title to the churchs property to proceed. But officials involved in the talks say there remain substantial differences over the size of the church complex and the amount of money the Port Authority will contribute to building it.'
After 2 years have gone by I would characterize the efforts of the Port Authority of NY/NJ as anything but 'eager'.
The article also mentioned that the reconstructed Church would serve about 70 families.
Though not a member of this denomination, I would be eager when the church is finally built to patronize it from time to time. furthermore, I strongly suggest that the rebuilt Greek Orthodox Church become a monument for all of those who believe in real religious freedom and not the politically correct version which the political miscreants like Mayor Bloomberg wallow in.
Since that posting even Rush picked it up in his (todays) show. He went into detail on the history of the place and that the Greek diocease wanted to make it into a full orthodox ediface replete with a dome. But the port authority nixed it. THIS IS AN USSUE WORTH PUSHING
Take a look, you'll be shocked...it's a google street map
