NEW YORK -- A Hamas leader says Muslims "have to build" a mosque near ground zero.
Mahmoud al-Zahar said Muslims "have to build everywhere" so that followers can pray, just like Christians and Jews build their places of worship.
Al-Zahar spoke Sunday on "Aaron Klein Investigative Radio" on WABC-AM. He is a co-founder of Hamas and its chief on the Gaza Strip.

It is interesting to note the date of the Amendment. Less than one month after 9/11.
...or justify practices inconsistent with the peace or safety of this state.
Thank you for posting that. I don’t know the NY State Constitution, as it is not my state.
However, I read nothing in that statement that extends to the right to build a mosque, or any other building. The Freedom to worship does not, in my opinion, equate to be synonymous with being allowed to build this Mosque. If those that wanted to build it had the money, and had proper zoning, according to the city, I have no problem with a Mosque, despite my distaste for the teachings of Islam.
However, to use the people’s funds to pay for fundraising for the Mosque is unconstitutional. Additionally, if that building is used in sedition purposes to try and institure Sharia law, which it will be, THAT is the PURPOSE of Islam, not the religion it PURPORTS to be, then, it’s no longer freedom to worship, but political activism, and likely, worse.
In any event, I haven’t made a decision about my feelings on the Mosque, however, I was pointing out that there IS NO SEPARATION of church and state in the U.S. Constitution, merely a prohibition on Congress which is violating our rights in trying to force atheism/communism on the American people.
Yep, that’s peculiar indeed. Like I said in my previous response, I’m not a New Yorker. States have the ability to legislate much more than the Federal Government does, according to their constitutions. The Muslim/Jihadi training centers have been allowed to operate for years.
I’m tried of a weak Government that bows to every one that wants to eliminate all rights but their own. I’m tired of the special classes in this country. That is not what the Founding Fathers, or our Creator, intended.
