Barack Obama's Ground Zero mosque plea will cost him and the Democrats votes
Telegraph ^ | 8.14.10 | William Lowther

Posted on 08/14/2010 7:36:17 AM PDT by libh8er

By charging headlong into the ferocious controversy over the plan to build a mosque near Ground Zero, President Barack Obama may have further damaged Democratic Party prospects in the upcoming mid-term elections.

For while his return to the soaring rhetoric that won him the White House in the first place will be popular with hard-core liberal supporters, it is unlikely to capture the hearts of middle-America this year.

In 2008 Mr Obama was a largely unknown quantity running on the strength of untried ideas and a ringing call for moral superiority. But now all of that has changed.

According to the NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll, 52 per cent of Americans disapprove of Mr Obama's handling of the economy; 45 per cent disapprove of his handling of the Afghanistan war; 40 per cent say the country is worse off since he became president.

Mr Obama has lost the political high ground and on the mosque issue - where emotions are far more likely than logic to win the argument - his stand will not go down well at the voting booths in November.

The President may be right in declaring that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in America, but that is not the question as middle America sees it.

For the majority of Americans this is not an issue of freedom of religion. It is a question of whether or not a mosque should be built within two blocks of Ground Zero, where 3,000 people perished when jetliners hijacked by Muslim extremists were flown into the World Trade Center towers on September 11, 2001.

So, the idea now is to divert attention to side line issues.

Case in point - 0bama talking about border security and the economy.

Meanwhile, the border patrol reports that they are pulling back off the border because "it's just too dangerous "!

And the economy is poised for a major collapse!

I get so angry that vote fraud even exists in America. There are half a dozen freepers including myself that could design, code, build and deploy an airtight ballot system in 6 months.

Like another freeper said: our elevators, fast-food registers, grocery-store checkout, vending machines, ATMs etc work without a hiccup but every voting system in every precinct in America is broken.

ditto what you said....therefore he has no reason to try and please Dims or his supporters. He is charging at a fast pace into his socialists agenda without regard to elections and supporters.

Obama's actions are the functional equivalent of Bill Clinton's famous line after having raped Juanita Brodderick, "Better put some ice on that lip."

He's really just playing the part of a pimp slapping his bitches around to show them who is boss.

Bummer was raised up to assume the fix. However his Marxist/atheistic puppet masters may have miscalculated the effect of an over fondness for Moose, and the Bummer has genuinely stuck his foot in it. The give-a-damn quotient of America rises every time this so called no-drama (ha!) Obama gets another orchestra hit. Consider that in 1998, only 60% of Americans who could have voted for some presidential candidate actually did so. That’s a big gap of gimme to the new-give-a-damn crowd. The Rats will lick their wounds this year and in 2012, and skulk away for another day in the sun sometime in the (hopefully very far) future.

Sometimes lately I just feeling like crying in frustration with how arrogant and uncaring these people are. The other side of that is a furious anger, which I only hope will be shared by my fellow citizens in November. I hope that rage pours over them in a sunami and wipes their butts out of office. GDm them for trying to destroy my country!!!!

That is by design, not stupidity. The Dems want it this way, and the GOP doesn't seem to care.

But what do New Yorkers think? And if they are against this action, what are they willing to do about it? Fly-over country Americans are used to be called ignorant, racist etc. when calling a spade a spade and standing up against the obvious, but what will elite liberals in NYC do to protect their freedoms?

This seems to assume that somehow the Rats have a hotline to a God Oracle that the Republicans don’t. Rats are every bit as capable of fooling themselves as anyone else. There is such a thing as excessive hubris (even in dreaming of fixes) to a downfall.

Yeah it will cost him votes. Hopefully, it will cost him his Presidency. Possibly the most bizarre thing a President has ever said. Let the dimwits on the Left sing his praises, they’re a perfect match.

Democrats would vote for Satan as long as there was a (D) next to his name on the ballot.
