MCNEAL, Ariz. While the entire nation is talking about illegal immigration, the residents of McNeal, Arizona are living the issue. Human and drug smuggling impacts residents on a daily basis. McNeal is a community located less than thirty miles from the United States and Mexican border....
"Just last week, three of them showed up at my back gate. It was three young men. They were from Mexico City," shared Richard Humphries...
"We probably see 30-40 (illegal immigrants) a day between Davis Road and here!" said John Brya, adding, "At least the ones you can see!"
Ones you can see? 9 On Your Side's Joel Waldman didn't know exactly what the local store owner meant by that, at first. But, Waldman started to figure it all out when McNeal residents Sean and Stephanie Langham took him and photojouranlist Alfonso Sahagun for a little walk. The couple had met Waldman a few days earlier at an anti-SB 1070 protest in Tucson. The two invited Waldman down to see first hand what they say really goes on in their border town.
"In this area this is where the coyotes are, the drop vehicles. This is where you see the beginning of the drug smuggling. This isn't just about people trying to find jobs," said S&S Auto owner Sean Langham.
A few steps further into the desert and under some desert brush Waldman and Sahagun saw what everyone in town meant when they talked about the illegal immigrants and smugglers that "you could not see." They stumbled upon a bunker hidden right in the middle of the desert landscape.
And it wasn't just any bunker. A hole in the ground, surrounded by brush, opened up into a roomy stash house. It was so well hidden that no one would know about it even now if not for a chance discovery. Sean Langham explained, "This was found by our children. That's who found it. I know there are a lot of mine shafts around here, but this is not a mine shaft," said Sean Langham...
Inside, Waldman and Sahagun found a fully functional bunker complete with running water and an electrical junction box. In the back, next to the local reptile resident, were dirty buckets that once served as toilets. Waldman learned that two weeks prior to his visit, McNeal residents called Border Patrol to report that the bunker was full of people. The Patrol came out and detained 70 suspected illegal immigrants.
Stephanie Langham led the KGUN9 News crew to a second stash house. This one was above ground, a vacant house that's up for sale. Langham, a mother of four, said she had to think long and hard before inviting a 9 On Your Side to come down and tell the town's story. "Even now doing this interview, we don't know the repercussion!" But despite her concerns, Langham said she feels this story needs to be told.
Other residents agree, even though many feel that some of the politicians who need to hear the story have their fingers in their ears. "Obama wouldn't learn a damn thing he doesn't already know if he came to the border," said Humphries, who is a retired narcotics officer. "He doesn't care."...
Fire in the hole!
Let's let Deputy Carl Spackler handle this!
That’s what I was thinking. Big boom. This is something the people of that community could take care of themselves. Ahem.
open borders ping
My thoughts exactly.
“Thats what I was thinking. Big boom. This is something the people of that community could take care of themselves. Ahem.”
Oh really. Who do you think would be prosecuted by our government?
Who would our government point to as the enemy?
I can tell you right now those citizens would be facing Federal charges of some kind if they try to dismantle that smuggling infrastructure.
So my question here is: Who is the enemy of the people of the United States?
First the government would have to figure out who did it.
Please don’t give Geraldo any ideas...LOL
I grew up in Elfrida, AZ, my brothers still live there. It is more dangerous then when I was there.
This is nonsense. The borders are as secure as they ever were; there are more deportations, and more deportations of serious criminals than under Bush.

Gila monster or rattler?
Thanks! Your second photo answered that question...
No way would I be going down in one of those holes without my .410 "Snake Charmer" at the ready!!
Still, in rattler country, you won't catch me unarmed. I've already had two "up close and personal" encounters this year.
In those instances, I'm the endangered species! TXnMA 2; rattlers 0...
rattler
Ping!
About 30 miles or so north of the border in Cochise County...
