The Republican U.S. Senate nominee says she's tough on illegal immigration but draws the line on altering the amendment, which grants citizenship to all people born in the United States.
BY MAEVE RESTON
Republican U.S. Senate nominee Carly Fiorina said Thursday that she opposes calls from some conservatives to alter the 14th Amendment, which grants citizenship to all people born in the United States.
Fiorina sought to appeal to conservative voters on immigration issues during her party's primary this spring, strongly backing Arizona's tough new law on illegal immigration, for example. But she drew the line Thursday at the question of denying birthright citizenship an issue that could be highly controversial among the state's large number of Latino voters.
"I don't think that's a useful dialogue I don't support changing the 14th Amendment," Fiorina told reporters after speaking to a convention of California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce in downtown Los Angeles. "I think what we need to do is have the federal government do its job and secure the border and have a temporary worker program that works. And all the rest of it is a distraction and, unfortunately, an emotional distraction."

“the amendment, which grants citizenship to all people born in the United States.”
It doesn’t; that’s the point.
“Fiorina or Boxer.
Lemme think about that one.
OK, I’m done. I’ll vote for Fiorina.”
Exactly!
Not to mention that voting for Fiorina may give us a Republican majority in the Senate and voting for Boxer, or staying home might get Boxer reelected and continue the Dem majority.
How long do conservatives have to think about this one?!
Exactly! The 14th does NOT NEED to be Altered! Do you want the people who gave us Obamacare and TARP (re)writing a constitutional amendment? Keep in mind that the 14th ALSO has the provision that prevents states from making laws that abridge our rights, including life, liberty, or property without due process! There are a LOT of other provisions of the 14th that we don’t DARE let Washington re-write!
Is Alan Keyes a RINO? Is Lindsey Graham NOT a RINO?
Alan Keyes is also against changing the 14th
Amendment, while Graham is for it.
Alan Keyes: Lindsey Graham’s Calls To Scrap Birthright Citizenship Are Too Crazy For Me
Changing the 14th Amendment is a smokescreen to distract conservatives. The real and ONLY answer to the illegal immigration problem is SECURING THE BORDER, fences, walls, drones, 10 border agents every two feet, WHATEVER it takes. All other measures are meaningless.
I’m not sure my point was well made.
In 2008, no matter which guy was elected to be president, it was 100% certain a Democrat would be residing in the White House. Republican(D) or Democrat, it’s pretty much the same thing.
In similar cases where the Republican(D) was running against a Democrat, it would be a 100% (D) chance of winning.
That’s all. I agree about Scott Brown. He certainly is.
McCain met with him less than 48 hours after him being sworn in. Just wanting to assure him he’d back his Conservative policy.
Dear Fiorina,
Go to this site, see the media files, and then ask yourself why we should import such violence into our nation?

Such violence must not be allowed to be imported into the United States.

Back in early 2007, before my illness set in, I often posted here that McCain was the ONLY certain loser to a Democrat opponent in next years Presidential election
I understand your point now. Thanks.
Wasn’t that the truth. Good call.
Okay great. Sorry if I was being tedious.
I knew McCain was a statist liberal, and I also knew Paleoconservatives, and others who hated him for the McCain/Kennedy/Bush amnesty with chain migration would not vote for him. And they didn’t. I am one Paleo who didn’t. I don’t vote for traitors.
Yep, same here. The only way that guy gets a favorable vote from me, is if we’re moving him up in the que for hell.
I agree with everybody here who says the 14th doesn’t need to be amended. It was created specifically on behalf of former slaves and no one else. It can be clarified by the SCOTUS or a statute by Congress.
My great fear right now is that the RNC, which is controlled by neocon/RINO folks, ALLOW or PROMOTE another RINO to run in 2012.
Exactly right - but just wait.
If/when Fiorina loses, the geniuses from the cagop/RNC will refer to her as a "conservative" and use the loss as further support for the "conservatives can't win" mantra. Then, they'll look to push an even bigger RINO.
Well, we won't hold it against you. ;-)
I buy that. It is just after hearing all that on this site during 2006 and 2008 someone would just say suck it up it could be Alvin Greene.
No, no, no. That’s just “emotional” stuff. /s
ROTFLMAO!
We can hook her up with a few of the Zeta Cabron. They are after all, only a mile away from her, and have cellphones. A demonstration of their tender mercies is quite in order!
One ringy dingy!
You are a kick!
