As opinion polls registered strong opposition to plans for an Islamic center near Ground Zero, President Obama on Wednesday issued a statement marking the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, calling the holiday "a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country."
Obama said Ramadan is a time "when Muslims around the world reflect upon the wisdom and guidance that comes with faith, and the responsibility that human beings have to one another, and to God."
He noted Ramadan's call for prayer and sacrifice and almsgiving, and said that along with the gatherings of family and friends at sundown for iftar dinners to break the daily fast, they are reminders "that the world we want to build – and the changes that we want to make – must begin in our own hearts, and our own communities."

I read somewhere a long time ago that the Clinton’s had a Mao ornament on their tree one year at the WH. Not surprising that the Clinton’s and Obama’s admire a Marxist.
Islam, the religion, has contributed little. But individual arabs, persians, lebanese and people from all over the middle east have contributed to our country’s rich melting pot.
Muslims and Islam have no contribution to American freedoms or culture - they and their beliefs are entirely foreign to our language borders and culture, and should not be tolerated nor encouraged.
Islam is at war with our nation.
Islam and muslims have contributed diddle squat other than a few terrifying bombings and plane crashes and dealth of a few thousand innocennts murdered in cold blood in jihad action, the extent of their impact on this civilization.
The Republic is at war with the doctrine of Islam and with muslims, no exception.

From what I can tell, there was essentially no Muslim presence in America before the 20th century. So much for “always been a part of.” There were isolated Muslim individuals, probably some west African slaves, sold into slavery by their co-religionists. Skip to the 19th century, and there’s that famous “shores of Tripoli” incident referenced in a favorite American song. Skip to the present, and there are the Muslim contributions to America we are all too painfully aware of.
I really don’t understand all of the ass-kissing of Muslims done by western politicians — unless they are operating by the fatally-flawed logic that Muslims can be swayed by flattery, or they are simply scared of them.
