Spain's plans to have 2,000 electric cars on the road by the end of 2010 have been dealt a blow as figures showed just 16 have been sold.

The government-backed REVE electric car and wind power project said 15 cars had been sold so far this year, in addition to one last year.

Very soon you’ll have a knock from a CA gubmint bureaucrat with an armed police escort who will drag your 1986 Explorer away and in return give a $1,000 rebate on a Government Motors Dolt.

That is EXACTLY what that letter smacked of. It said “You aren’t required to do anything” but the unwritten subtext is exactly what you say.

Sounds like the sales are virtually nonexistent.

You know it's bad when they have to go two years back and re-count the ONE CAR sold that year to improve their count to 16.

Have you thought of writing a reply back? You could start a vanity thread on FR by posting the text of the letter and asking for responses to it. After everyone has had their say write up a snarky reply to those bureaucratic idiots but first post what you plan to send for comments and criticisms. Once you get the final copy written post it on the same thread, send it to those Mandarins, and see what happens.

Build the cars without engines.

They’ll be light enough to push.

They can still have a country that looks like The Flintstones, they’ll just have to replace the dinosaurs with modern animals.

Doesn't the saying go something like this: "Figures never lie, but liars figure?"

Whenever I see a fear-mongering, breathlessly hysterical headline with a number in it, I always try to look at the article for additional numerical or statistical information. I guess you can't blame someone for "spinning" the data so as to be most favorable to the point he or she is trying to make, but, good grief, sometimes it just gets ridiculous.

Percentages, like the example you used, are particularly great for misleading. Or how about the "evil" person or company that temporarily raised cost of something 50% (from $50 to $75- the $25 is 1/2 of $50) but later only reduced it 33% (the $75 went back to the original $50 but $25 is 1/3 of $75)? Or health risks that double so that rather than it being 1/10 of the chance one has of getting struck by lightning, it is now 1/5 of the chance? Sheesh...

Yes, let's see the gov. propaganda!

Also, the golf carts on the road now will be starting to have PMS(batteries starting to fail), just as the dolt rolls slowly to market.

So that news should help(depending on whose side your on).

$775 Million to subsidize 16 cars...

That comes out to $48 Million per car...

Suddenly, the $89,000 subsidy for each $37,000 Chevy Volt does not seem like such a bad deal.

And if the Spanish Government is willing to give me the $48 Million, I will gladly take one of their electric cars off their hands...

And at the current rate of sales it will only take them a hair of 130 years to reach their goal.
