This is simple common sense, since the mosque developers have once again been shown to be operating under false pretenses. But common sense has, of course, been in short supply lately among New York politicians. "Lazio: Let's pull plug on mosque," by Chuck Bennett and Isabel Vincent in the New York Post, August 9:
GOP gubernatorial hopeful Rick Lazio yesterday called on the Public Service Commission to zap the Ground Zero mosque because of the revelation that Con Ed owns half the site. "As governor I will appoint commissioners . . . who, like me, oppose this group's plan to build a mosque at Ground Zero -- and I encourage New Yorkers to call the Public Service commissioners and tell them the same," he said.
The disclosure in Sunday's Post about the property's ownership proves the mosque's developers "have been operating under false pretenses," he said.
The commission, which oversees utility rate hikes, may get to weigh in on the controversial plan if Con Ed sells its building on Park Place to mosque developer Sharif El-Gamal.
El-Gamal, of Soho Properties, paid $700,000 last year to take over a 99-year lease on the utility's building and has said he wants to buy it outright. [...]
Assemblyman Richard Brodsky (D-Westchester), who chairs the committee on corporation, authorities and commissions, personally opposes the mosque, saying, "This is the site of mass murder. It would be much better if the parties could get together and figure out something that is reasonable."
But Brodsky, a candidate for attorney general, said he won't get involved.
"The law has to be fairly applied to everyone without regard to religious views," he said. <,p> Even the PSC is not sure it will have a say.
"As of today, we are not sure if this issue will even come before the commission for a determination," said spokesman James Denn.
Gov. Paterson, who supports the mosque, won't get involved, said his spokesman Morgan Hook.
Con Ed said it would follow its "legal obligations under the lease" and not consider outside factors....
I agree. He was really good on FOX recently.
The problem is: it should have been cleared before ANY vote was taken. It also should have been brought to our attention A LONG TIME AGO.
Agreed.
Lazio lost to Hillary in 2000 largely because he brought a bunch of Juan McCain’s advisers aboard his campaign committee, and in typical fashion they advised him not to attack her.
He needs to stop being polite and show a little fight this time.
Shut Up “Little Ricky”
You are THE LOSER who lost to HilLIARy- why dont you quit the race and let a real man win the republican primary?
Liberal speak = Lazio is making 9/11 political.
On Fox yesterday they read a statement from ConEd that ConEd would sell the building to the mosque if the price was right.
Unless this can be delayed until Lazio gets elected the muzzies will win
What I don’t understand is why a zillion lawsuits haven’t been filed against ConEd, etc. to slow this all down.
If the moon rock worshippers want to build a mosque, let them do it away from Ground Zero. I’m sure there are other sites available.

No other site has the political impact that this one does. This is the essence.
Lazio lost mostly because he was a late comer to the campaign and didn’t really have time to setup messaging, build coalitions and cement a brand that people could recognize.
He came into to race with about 5 months to campaign against an opponent who had basically been campaigning for two years.
Guiliani was the candidate that dropped out and I forget why.
If part of the property belongs to ConEd how can the Islamoterrorists acquire it? Please note I use the term Islamoterrorists purposely. I leave pretending the people trying to build this mosque are simple Muslim pilgrims to idiots like Bloomberg, Cuomo, Onada and Biden.
In any case, if a previous post is accurate, a pork plant is slated to be built right next to this property. Sounds like poetic justice to me. However, Bloomburg will probably try to oust the pork plant because it might offend people who believe women are chattel and all infidels need to be converted, enslaved and/or murdered.
Word is there are already 100+ mosques in nyc.
Wow. Just how many Muslims are there in the nyc area?
Thanks for the link.
From 600,000 to 800,000 Muslims live in New York city. That is up to 16% of the population.
I have mixed feelings on this.
1. it is obviously bad to have more arson fires and related Islamic WAR attacks.
2. Without the realities of war we don't even know who we are fighting and why we fight. We call the two wars we are fighting a war on a tactic which is terrorism. We can not fight a war against a tactic. Islam is the idea that needs to be targeted fought not their tactics.
A great issue??!!1 An alleged conservative selectively spitting on property rights and the first amendment?! This must be bizzaro world.
What property rights would those be? Con Ed controls the property. Why would its rights be impinged on if it were persuaded not to sell it? If it were forced to sell it, that would be a violation of the Constitution. The Constitution, until recently, protected people from the government seizing their property without just compensation. I fail to see your point here. Unless you are saying that Cordoba House somehow has a Constitutional right to acquire the property, which I think would be a bizarre argument.
