Not so fast.
The developers of the controversial mosque proposed near Ground Zero own only half the site where they want to construct the $100 million building, The Post has learned.
One of the two buildings on Park Place is owned by Con Edison, even though Soho Properties told officials and the public that it owns the entire parcel. And any potential sale by Con Ed faces a review by the state Public Service Commission.
We never heard anything about Con Ed whatsoever, said a stunned Julie Menin, the chairwoman of Community Board 1, which passed a May resolution supporting the mosque.
Catherine Nance Daisy Khan, one of the mosques organizers, told The Post last week that both buildings on Park Place are needed to house the worship and cultural center. But she claimed ignorance about the Con Ed ownership of 49-51 Park Place and referred questions to Soho Properties, which bought the building at 45-47 Park Place in 2009.

No Mosque No Mas. :-)
We’re going to need a heavy barrage of e-mails and phone calls to Con-Ed pleading with them not to sell. This could stop the whole abomination in its tracks.
Of course, Muslims are not shy about blowing up buildings they wish not to be in their way so...
You don’t need to Mosque your feelings here darkwing. :-)
They have to go back to go.
Now, I gotta ask you:
How could not the MSM, the Mayor, all the NY people not have even done a title search, much less a financial disclosure analysis on this property until all the lines in the sand were drawn up.
Are we just all stupid, or is Bloomberg smart like a fox, to now force Con Ed to surrender its’ valuable property to further the cause of the muslim community, in the face of “diversity”?
I guess it’s time to start a fund to buy the other half. A couple bucks each from millions of Americans should do it. :)
Ahh, the political/ruling class practicing the fine art of sneak, cheat and lying and the beat just goes on.
Seems to me like the Landmark Commission made a decision and issued a ruling based on false information, and needs to go back and start from scratch on the proposal. Was the commission lied to? Was information withheld from the commission? Or did the commission know about the questionable ownership and decide allow the project to go forward anyway? Who knew what, when? Sounds like the district attorney needs to look into this.
Even if the mosque will never be built, the insistence of the Muslims to build a mosque at Ground Zero should be an indication to the American people that Islam is NOT interested in a peaceful coexistence with non-Muslims.
The common wall is not the property line. It may be evidence of a property line but there is an explicit dimension that divides the two properties.
Someone had to be very aware of this and so the whole project is a farce...and Bloomberg should jump off a pier.
Has Con Ed made a deal with NYC lately?? Something smells.
I have a funny feeling there was some shredding along the way. I also have a feeling that the Commission "let it pass" thinking that it would take care of itself.
We are not stupid , just slow. We will catch up . The bribes and kickbacks must be huge . Probably 50 of the 150 needed .
bump and bookmarked
It seems to me that even if he could tear down the con ed property, combining the two properties into one indivisible mosque would be problematic. Where is a good property attorney when you need one!
Don't blame the Landmark Commission on this one. That building is no landmark and is not worth saving.
That said, I am totally opposed to a Mosque anywhere near the site. In fact, I'd oppose a Mosque anywhere in the U.S. until at least a Christian church building is approved in Saudi Arabia.
Con-Ed will sell it or the govt will seize the property. This won’t be the show stopper.
