'Birthers' fade after passage of law against them

The persistent quest for President Barack Obama's Hawaii birth certificate has died down since the state passed a law allowing it to ignore repetitive requests for the document.

Far fewer "birthers," who claim Obama is ineligible to be president, have asked state officials to provide the document since the law was enacted in May, according to the state.

The law has never even been put to use, said Department of Health spokeswoman Janice Okubo. The number of people seeking proof that Obama was born outside of Hawaii and the United States diminished without the law being invoked.

Only about two or three e-mails now seek verification of Obama's birth each week, compared to between 10 and 20 weekly requests earlier this year.

"We have a handful of repeat requesters, but they know about the law," Okubo said. "They do everything they can to get around it."

Such tactics include having a relative or friend make the document request, she said, or asking for the vital records of Obama's relatives in search of clues that would show he was born outside the U.S.

Hawaii law has long barred the release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest.

Perhaps the Birthers should wait until the 2012 election. Then spring it during a massive grassroots campaign.

Silenced would be a better choice of word.

Speaking of family members, we need to get the half brother who lives in a broken down shack to make a request.

Can you believe how absurd this all is?

We have government officials poo-pooing American citizens trying to see the birth certificate of the President of The United States of America.

No, actually now the time is right to use a different tactic. Instead of trying to fight this thing out in the courts, this should be done at the state level. Joseph Farah at WND is calling for everyone to petition their legislatures to pass laws requiring candidates to prove their citizenship before being put on the ballot. In a close race, not being a certified candidate in even a few states could cost him the electoral votes he needs to win.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

Birthers are only preaching to the Choir.
A massive grass roots Birther campaign only helps the other side.

Perhaps. I really don’t see why this isn’t a big deal.

'Birthers' fade after passage of law against them Friday
And yet one more article. A companion piece to today's piece?
NYDN: Could 'birther' movement be dead? Hawaii getting fewer requests for Obama birth certificate Saturday
The issue must not be dead enough.

How do we know it was ‘birthers’ asking for the BC? For all we know it very well could have been people who wanted to prove that Obama was born here and shut the birthers up.

It may be dead in Hawaii, but I think AZ passed a law saying he has to show his BC to be on their ballot next go round. If a few others did the same, he would be numerically unable to win. He has to file to be on the ballot just like the first time so even if one state held it up, it would be telling to see if he produced one.( not the Cert of Live Birth either)

That’s my feeling too. This is a little disinformation to make people think it’s a lost cause.

Personally, I doubt that he was born in the US, and I wish proof would turn up. Realistically, I doubt that there’s any possibility of producing it until decades from now when whatever is going to happen (the Fourth Reich) has happened and been defeated.

However, it certainly never hurts to try. It would be much easier to kick him out, annul all laws signed by him and then start afresh than to see our country go up in flames. Even if we know that right will ultimately triumph, it’s not going to be any fun in the meantime.

Just ignore the problem and it will go away...that’s the tactic being used.
