Swindling our seniors: AARP shills for White House on Obamacare
NY Daily News ^ | Aug 3, 2010 | Lawrence Hunter

Posted on 08/04/2010 8:10:37 PM PDT by Bull Man

For most of last year, AARP was the White House's designated huckster with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to pass comprehensive health care reform legislation and cut Medicare by $500 billion. This calculated move by AARP, which will virtually destroy the popular Medicare Advantage program, will vastly increase the demand for medigap supplemental insurance - AARP's primary insurance product.

This was a cynical and calculated move for a non-profit organization that is supposed to be advocating for the elderly - not its own business interests.

Today, Obamacare is the law of the land, and AARP has moved on to become the White House's chosen shill with older Americans, hawking Obamacare like some kind of midway carny to convince seniors that AARP and Obamacare work for them.

Despite its insistence that "We Never Stop Working for You," AARP works for the White House and on behalf of its own high-paid staff, not its members.

In turn, Obamacare works for liberal politicians and the government-corporate-nonprofit health care complex, which is composed of big government bureaucracies, labor unions, AARP, big pharma and big insurance companies. What was sold as a bold new path to universal coverage is, at least as far as AARP is concerned, a bait-and-switch snare designed to distract older people with token benefit enrichments. Meanwhile, structural changes to Medicare will ration health care, sending them out into the cold and, surely enough, to an early grave.

The best evidence of AARP's treachery toward its members was its full-throated support of Obamacare's $500 billion cuts to Medicare. According to Heritage Foundation research by Bob Moffit, "Medicare Advantage plans, which currently attract almost one in four seniors, will see enrollment cut roughly in half over the next 10 years." This despite repeated assurances...

I’m ripping every ad and offers of new membership cards we get from AARP into little pieces and sending them back to the traitors in the postage-prepaid envelops they send - it’s the least I can do.....

Disgusting.

Just like the Public Service Ads that Andy Griffith has been doing
to pitch Obamacare.

Makes me ill to see/hear that propaganda.

Granted... I dumped them back during ‘hillary-care’ when they were pimping it.

They did refund my dues though.

I’ve actually considered slipping a tile sample of granite into one of their envelopes. I wonder what that would cost? Junk mail stinks, especially from Lefties.

Like tens of thousands of others, I cancelled my membership to AARP over the Health Care issue. They can kiss my butt on both sides.

It ain’t JUST AARP....its most of the country’s administrative elite...snookered by DC Beltway Blindness and liberal arrogance. They are cocooned in a wall of cash tax and debt dollars they control..insulated from the consequences of their Marxist decision-making by regulatory layers and administrative perks. They “watch” the consequences play out in communities across the country, as a lab scientist watches his rats respond to his ideas. The ultimate consequence of this “let them eat cake” attitude toward Flyover Country may well be a grisly French Revolution style dismantling of their house of cards-a probability of which totally escapes them in their isolation form their fellow Americans.

If it’s a liberal cause, the aarpvarks are on it like: flies on stink, ugly on ape, white on rice. Screw them.

Amen. Watching a $1,000,000 plus wedding for Chelsea paid for persumably by two parents who have done practically their whole career in politics should give one pause. How did they get that kind of money? From us of course.

Charlie Rangle just a poor NYC boy who happens to own an estate in the Bahamas. Where did the money come from?

Michelle Obama takes Sasha to Spain for vacation and rents 60 rooms in a grand hotel. Who pays for it? We do of course.

Seems politics pays real good. The stupid sisters of California (Boxer, Feinstein, and Pelosi) are all worth millions. Where did the money come from?

I think it is time to revolt. We work hard and they confiscate our pay checks and ignore us.

I imagine that once ObamaCare and Andy Griffith’s new and improved Medicare kick in, seniors will be able to get a pretty good deal on coffins from AARP.

I got my invite to join aarp as I am facing down the big 5 0 birthday. It went to the shredder.

What I am curious about is how they know who is turning 50, because all my classmates (class of '78) are getting their invites too.

If I join any org it will be http://www.americanseniors.org.

Damn, you know I loved the Andy Griffith show... Oh well, seems like Hollywood has stained them all. Both my sister and I have given up on him at this point and would not listen to his propaganda if we had to... Oh well, another decade gone by with heroes lost...

I hope all that does’nt ever happen...but the DC crowd has played way too fast and loose with the public trust for it to end Constitutionally at this point.

I don’t respond at all, just trash the stuff. Sometimes heat my house with it. That way they’ll continue to spend money sending me offers.

What I am curious about is how they know who is turning 50.”

There is nothing about you that is not known - get used to it. Went on the net not long ago to look at other auto ins options. Put in my name and zip code and up popped a picture of my car with a question, “Is this the car you are wanting information on?” Filled a prescription for Celebrex last week - within 24 hours I had received 16 emails from various companies, some telling me about the dangers, others giving me less expensive alternatives and one from an attorney wanting to know if I wanted to be part of a class action suit against the drug maker. All were in my spam. Between Google and all the information you provide on your driver’s license and social security card, it’s pretty well covered.
