Swindling our seniors: AARP shills for White House on Obamacare
NY Daily News ^ | Aug 3, 2010 | Lawrence Hunter

Posted on 08/04/2010 8:10:37 PM PDT by Bull Man

For most of last year, AARP was the White House's designated huckster with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to pass comprehensive health care reform legislation and cut Medicare by $500 billion. This calculated move by AARP, which will virtually destroy the popular Medicare Advantage program, will vastly increase the demand for medigap supplemental insurance - AARP's primary insurance product.

This was a cynical and calculated move for a non-profit organization that is supposed to be advocating for the elderly - not its own business interests.

Today, Obamacare is the law of the land, and AARP has moved on to become the White House's chosen shill with older Americans, hawking Obamacare like some kind of midway carny to convince seniors that AARP and Obamacare work for them.

Despite its insistence that "We Never Stop Working for You," AARP works for the White House and on behalf of its own high-paid staff, not its members.

In turn, Obamacare works for liberal politicians and the government-corporate-nonprofit health care complex, which is composed of big government bureaucracies, labor unions, AARP, big pharma and big insurance companies. What was sold as a bold new path to universal coverage is, at least as far as AARP is concerned, a bait-and-switch snare designed to distract older people with token benefit enrichments. Meanwhile, structural changes to Medicare will ration health care, sending them out into the cold and, surely enough, to an early grave.

The best evidence of AARP's treachery toward its members was its full-throated support of Obamacare's $500 billion cuts to Medicare. According to Heritage Foundation research by Bob Moffit, "Medicare Advantage plans, which currently attract almost one in four seniors, will see enrollment cut roughly in half over the next 10 years." This despite repeated assurances...

Not really sure why this organization still exists except that the media is protecting them. They should be prosecuted in courts.

By getting Medicare Advantage plans eliminated they can sell more of their high priced insurance plans, that is all they care about.

Seniors are nothing but a tool to them!

"Seriously ill old people have a duty to die and get out of the way." Democrat Richard Lamm.

Democrat Obama "just give 'em a pill" care axiom: Old people never seem to die, they just get in the way.

"Duty, Honor, Country.. so die already!" Obamacare.

Why and how did this organization know when I turned 50? Does the government provide this information to them? I have been badgered by them for 13 years now. I will never join, but people continually tell me the join because of all the discounts they get. I suggest they join AAA instead if they like discounts.

My wife and I both turned 50 this year, and received AARP info in the mail. I didn’t bother to open the letter. We’ll never join. Obamacare shills is what they are.

I called AARP about 18 months ago; told them where to shove our membership and why; then asked for my money back. I received a check the next week.

AARP is now pushing for a VAT tax, because Europe has one.

Discounts? Yes, a 2% discount on motel rooms ... most hotels, motels give that, or better, for seniors. Other than that, what do they offer?

Drug discounts? Better deal at Wal-Mart then anything AARP can offer. So, what is the attraction?

Heh... I throw all their junk mail into the trash where it belongs! They are a horrible organization preying on the elderly and they actually should be banned.

I have much stronger words for them, but refrain from using them due to respect for this website and by conscience.

When I turned 50 I also got the constant junk mail from AARP. 6 months later when I went on Disability I decided to look at their Medicare supplemental Insurance. Because I was/am under 65 I did not qualify. Hmmmm, they want me to join at 50, but no benefits until 65???

SCREW THEM!!!!

Its a shame.

I have family that will not listen and insist that AARP is a great thing and doing wonderful things on their behalf.

And for that matter, that the Dems are for the little guy.

It occurs to me that my grandparents were the greatest Generation, fighting off tyranny and communism.

And then their idiot baby boomer Kids turned around and signed on with the communist party and are yet too stupid to even realize it.

( Thankfully not ALL boomers - calm down )

It absolutely makes me sick......

I turned 50 this year and have be inundated with AARP cr@p. They always include postage-paid envelopes. I rip my name off the stuff and mail it back to them in their envelope along with any other junk mail I get that day. Chip away at the Left any way you can.

I got sucked into the AARP hype when I turned 50. Whew, it didn’t take long to see that that sick organization is nothing more than another arm of the communist Democrat party. No thanks. I’m done with it and they will never get another penny from me or anybody I know.
