JEDDAH: It is claimed that the rate of housemaids running away from their sponsors usually increases as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.
They escape as they are often able to command larger salaries of around SR2,500 per month, particularly because many Saudi families find it difficult to manage without a house help during the fasting month.
a housemaid who successfully escapes ...Fawziyah G. said a possible solution was to install iron bars as well as electric curtains on windows and hide the apartment key away from the housemaids.
Cameras may also be planted in various areas of the house to observe the movements of the housemaid 24/7, she suggested.

Is this serious? It sounds like they are basically considered to be slaves and treated as such.
In Saudi Arabia, the housemaids are slaves.
The housemaids will continue to run away even if their sponsors are regularly paying them their monthly salaries, he said. This implies that getting paid regularly is:
a) an unusual occurence
b) something the slave should be grateful for
Faisal Al-Matrafi called for crackdowns near malls and supermarkets to arrest runaway housemaids...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the comments was from a fellow with an Arabic name. There's something sad about seeing someone (presumably a Muslim themselves) pleading with their co-religionists, "I don't understand in Islamic society why cant you let everyone choose his own work and live freely and work freely . this is the only way to stop this about money you spend please try to understand these maids are human beings they are not animals."
Ideas have consquences.
Slavery is still legal under Islam. Islam means submit.
Geez, it sounds like they are talking about House Elves in the Harry Potter books.
Good Lord, this is awful.
Just when I think I can't like this bunch any less I find I still can.
Faisal Al-Matrafi called for crackdowns near malls and supermarkets to arrest runaway housemaids as well as the brokers....
And they do not even recognize the heinousness of what they speak.
And just think.... They would like to do this to the rest of humanity. Slave owner vs. Slave.
You should read “Princess” by Jean Sassoon. It’s a trilogy of the life of a Saudi princess and it describes the life in detail and the fate of their servants/slaves.
Exactly. They ARE slaves.
They are slaves. Since you just discovered this today, tell 3 people you know. Maybe one of them will really believe you. Have them tell 3 people.
The truth is horrifying.
Gotta love euphemism.
“Sponsor” = slavemaster.
The golden rule is out. It’s now treat people how THEY want to be treated. All cultures are equal, Western civilization is evil. Get in goose-step, or bow down to mecca!
"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die. But the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world." Winston Churchill, 1899
Bars on their maid’s windows, lock the maid’s door and hide the keys, security cameras, chasing their servant slaves after they escape...
What is not to love ?
