Gotta love euphemism.

“Sponsor” = slavemaster.

Bars on their maid’s windows, lock the maid’s door and hide the keys, security cameras, chasing their servant slaves after they escape...

What is not to love ?

Few Saudi upperclass women do their own work. It is a sign of prestige if the husband can afford to hire someone. They “import” foreign usually oriental domestics. The broker is the person who arranges the importation of the worker and the sponsor is the employer. The employer is responsible for the “behavior” of the worker as she is a member of his household. Remember Saudi women can not drive and can not travel freely alone. The workers are not allowed to just change jobs. They are contracted to the sponsoring family.
I am not defending just stating how it is from the experiences of people I have known who lived there and from our own brief flirtation in the 80’s with accepting a job offer and moving there. It is slavery.
