Our cover image this week is powerful, shocking and disturbing. It is a portrait of Aisha, a shy 18-year-old Afghan woman who was sentenced by a Taliban commander to have her nose and ears cut off for fleeing her abusive in-laws. Aisha posed for the picture and says she wants the world to see the effect a Taliban resurgence would have on the women of Afghanistan, many of whom have flourished in the past few years. Her picture is accompanied by a powerful story by our own Aryn Baker on how Afghan women have embraced the freedoms that have come from the defeat of the Taliban and how they fear a Taliban revival. . .

F#cking savages.
I knew nothing of the nation of Afghanistan before opening this book. Good thing the weather is conducive to sitting inside and reading. The recent history of this nation leaves me astonished that anyone still lives there today.
It also terrifies me for our troops given who their commander in chief is. God help them!
Yep,, either freezing cold or blazing hot,, take your pick. Just FYI... I did not fight,, I will not take that credit,, but worked for KBR,,,,,fixing A/C's/Heaters/generators for the troops..but mortors don't know who they are shooting at... they usually missed....
I like the comment from James in the comments section. He said when Bush was in office, it was a war for oil but now that a Democrat is in office, the war becomes a noble cause to help women.
I could not possibly care less.
What savage barbarians do with their women is their business, not ours.
The article said she is in a safe place with 24 hour gaurd and will come to the US for reconstructive surgery. I just hope she doesn’t forget who helped her.
I’m born in America and raised American. My parents were both born in and came here in the 70s-80s from India.
She saw me as some kind of poor creature with no sense of identity desperately trying to act white. I saw her as a girl way out of my league but I had an inside track all the other guys on due to my skin color and heritage (ironically enough) and my general interest in knowledge.
I also would spend some pillow talk time destroying her naive world view. Told her the truth about women in such cultures (stoning, genital mutilation, forced child marriages, acid for school girls etc.) and then told her that the feminists here in this country aren’t really looking out for women. Educated her about the destructive nature of the modern leftist movement in general.
She became a conservative (don’t know if it was just me or also to rebel against her parents who were 60’s hippies) and decided to re-evaluate her life. Then she became a practising Christian and decided to do that born again virgin thing and go to law school. She now works for a NGO fighting the human trafficking of women for sex. We keep in touch and I consider her a good friend but unfortunately we broke up when I refused to follow her into new found religion.
for 1000yrs... hence my call to nuke the place and start over again...
you would be doing the women a favor...
Was at the attorney’s waiting room, picked up the latest Time copy, it is less than 50% of it’s former thickness, and most of that is yada yada from Joe Klein, they are going down.
Slime Magazine would have never had an article like this when GWB was in charge. It’s only because Obutthole is in charge of Afganistan and they want to bolster support for him.
Shameless.
(but good that they’re portraying the plight of women in those subhuman cultures
Obama is not in favor of continuing in Afghanistan, which is why he delayed for nearly a year on the request for more troops and also did everything possible to undermine the war effort there. However, since the Dems had at one point focused on Afghanistan in an attempt to undermine Bush on Iraq, he couldn’t go whole hog and demand an immediate pull out.
Don’t forget, the famous “leak” on Afghanistan was offered to the White House 2 weeks before it was published, and Bambi knew about it, knew the fall out from it, and let it be published. He wants this war to fail, but he doesn’t dare come out and say so.
I’m actually impressed that Time went ahead and published this, and I’m actually going to buy the magazine and write them a positive letter.
You did well with her and educated her rightly; you had absorbed the fundamental message of America, which is that all human beings are entitled to certain things - life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness - simply because they are human beings. But look at the foundation for your concept of the sanctity of human life (even female human life), and you will find that the Judeo-Christian God, who created man in His image and likeness, is that foundation.
God bless.
This tells much about the threat we face from international radical Islam. But I warn you, the picture in the link is hideous.
Yes, you’re right — it is hideous. The Taliban are hideous.
WHAT IS EVEN MORE HIDEOUS, is your don’t hear a universal outcry from non-jihadi muslims regarding this.
Thanks for the ping ClintonFatigued.

I never understood radical leftists in general. Of course I don’t see how they are different from Jihadists.
Why are we still fighting there if we are expected to pull out next year? Why are we wasting American lives if we have already given the enemy a pullout date. At this point in the game, I really don’t care how these Islamics treat eachother, just stay the hell out of the USA.
