Well, it's official. Progressive Democrats want President Obama to face off against former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in 2012 as the battle for the ages.
An early release of the Netroots Nation straw poll taken from Thursday through Sunday and obtained by TPM shows that attendees of the convention in Las Vegas overwhelmingly want Palin to mount a presidential bid.
Respondents were asked who would they "most like to see" as the GOP nominee to challenge Obama for reelection two years from now. Netroots attendees preferred Sarah Palin, with 48 percent of them choosing her. The next closest vote-getter was libertarian Rep. Ron Paul with 11 percent, followed by former Sen. Rick Santorum with 10 percent and former Gov. Mitt Romney with 9 percent.
The others trailed in this order: Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (8 percent), Gov. Tim Pawlenty (7 percent), Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (5 percent) and Rep. Mike Pence (1 percent).

DeMint 2012.
I like Palin, and think she could easily win the primary, but wouldn't do well among the general. They know that too.
They should be careful what they wish for.
I remember lots of FReepers cheering for Obama based on the idea he would be the easiest dem to beat.
We can all see how that worked out.
I guess they are listening to Michael Savage, who also suffers PDS, by saying that Obambie would take all 50 states in a landslide if Palin is the nominee.
Go figure...
Wow! All 2000 of them. Quite a movement. Losers all.
Yep I remember how during the primaries Republicans wanted Obama to win because they thought beating him would be a piece of cake..well, look how that turned out. Those progressive idiots better be careful what they wish for, because if she does end up winning, they will commit mass suicide..NICE..so it would be a win/win situation
Just curious, why don’t you think Palin would do well in the general election?
I am sorry for this analysis.
I ADORE Sarah Palin. She has stood up for Conservative Values from the moment she was thrust into the public spotlight. She is an important voice for the common person.
She is also unelectable for President.
She has done little to rehabilitate herself since her disastrous series of interviews when running as VP. Instead, she has decided to become a sideline sniper, lending little credence to her potential gravitas.
Remember, this is a political analysis — but you Sarah supporters are welcome to correct me.
She will beat Obama. Obama is losing the Independent vote and Palin will get enough Independents and single women to win.
She will destroy him with the male vote and center-right Independents.
Sarah Palin remains low in hypothetical polls — however she hasn’t announced an intention to be a candidate. She couldn’t shine very brightly in John McCain’s shadow, and America saw only a bare half of what she means. If she campaigned the same way she speechifies on Facebook, I’d expect her numbers to shoot way up overnight.
Obama has lost ALL of the independent votes. If she ran against him she would kick his marxist ass..but she would need a good running mate..she can’t do it all alone..the question is..who..Michele Bachmann??
Do not underestimate.
I had a liberal friend say point blank to me last night, “If she were to win I am leaving the country”
They are terrified of her.
AWESOME..then people should be pulling for her to win..can you imagine, this country without progressive in it trying to destroy this great country..oh man, it would be so great
Because she is the top of the GOP field, but scores at the bottom of the pack among the general electorate, according to Gallop.

The Washington Post hit it on the head.

“AWESOME..then people should be pulling for her to win..can you imagine, this country without progressive in it trying to destroy this great country..oh man, it would be so great”
That would be great, but history has shown many times that once leftists get into the system to the extent they have here and now, the only way to get them out is likely to be bloody.
>>Just curious, why dont you think Palin would do well in the general election?<<
You didn’t ask me, but here is what I see:
* She established a reputation of being prettier than smart (not fair, but we are talking reality here).
* She is pretty, which offends all Feminazis (and many plain Jane Independents)
* She was unable to answer some very easy questions in the 2008 election cycle and has done nothing in the interim to prove they were just misstatements.
* Her association with Fox makes her look like a pundit rather than a political observer.
* Quite frankly, her “political analyses” as a Fox pundit have been very thin and lightweight.
* The smears of 2008 still weigh upon her and she has done very little to throw them off. “I can see Russia from my porch” is still attached to her — she has done little to overcome that stereotype.
And yes she could see Russia (Siberia) from her porch. So?
