Wikileaks Releases U.S. Afghanistan War Files; Partners With NY Times, UK Guardian, Der Spiegel

Read reports on the files at:

Der Spiegel

The New York Times

The Guardian

Intro by Der Spiegel:

Close to 92,000 US documents have been uncovered that shed new light on the war in Afghanistan. In an unprecedented development, close to 92,000 classified documents pertaining to the war in Afghanistan have been leaked. SPIEGEL, the New York Times and the Guardian have analyzed the raft of mostly classified documents. They expose the true scale of the Western military deployment -- and the problems beleaguering Germany's Bundeswehr in the Hindu Kush.

A total of 91,731 reports from United States military databanks relating to the war in Afghanistan are to be made publicly available on the Internet. Never before has it been possible to compare the reality on the battlefield in such a detailed manner with what the US Army propaganda machinery is propagating. WikiLeaks plans to post the documents, most of which are classified, on its website.

Britain's Guardian newspaper, the New York Times and SPIEGEL have all vetted the material and compared the data with independent reports. All three media have concluded that the documents are authentic and provide an unvarnished image of the war in Afghanistan -- from the perspective of the soldiers who are fighting it.

The reports, from troops engaged in the ongoing combat, were tersely summarized and quickly dispatched. For the most part, they originate from sergeants -- but some have been penned by the occasional lieutenant at a command post or ranking analysts with the military intelligence service.

In a statement to Der Spiegel, Obama National Security Council spokesman Ben Rhodes blamed President George W. Bush:

... It is important to note that the time period reflected in the documents is January 2004 to December 2009. The war in Afghanistan was under-resourced for many years. ... On Dec. 1, 2009, President Obama announced a new strategy and new resources for Afghanistan and Pakistan precisely because of the grave situation.

Beyond belief!

How about holding Obama responsible for NOT stopping Wikileaks from releasing top secret data?

The New York Times is nothing but a treasonous propaganda rag, but that’s ok. Because it’s all Bush’s fault.

We see this kind of crap happen over and over again. NOBODY will be charged with treason or anything else. Our own are working against us. I begged my son NOT to go into the military right now even though I'm a vet. If they're not bringing our soldiers up on bogus charges, tying their hands with ROE, the administration is cutting them off at the knees, or the media is leaking information to get them killed. My God, how can these people sleep at night?! I hate them and hope they all burn in hell!

Amazing isn’t it, these media “genius’s” can’t relate
the fact that this “unusual” release of documents only deals with the previous administration?

There was a report that some 850k or more have top secret clearance in this country now. When it's that overdone, leaks are going to happen. There needs to be a real crack down. I know even with that level you are still limited, but there's enough tracking now to know who is leaking this stuff if they cared to.

THIS ACT OF TREASON WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN OR FORGIVEN!

Who are you kidding? How many people have been charged with leaking our sigint capabilities that graced the cover of the NYT?

Where was the outrage over the release of the number of nuclear warheads? What about the information regarding interrogators at Gitmo?

Sure, it will be here in the minds of FReepers, but do you really think that all responsible will be held accountable? Really? The only, ONLY, way that would happen if there was a crisis that couldn't be wasted and someone was to be thrown under the bus for political expediency.

That is because so many Americans are lazy and ignorant. It doesn't affect them directly so they don't care. They could release bank info, ssns, addresses, credit card info etc etc and most Americans wouldn't care until it was THEIR account that was drained. Do you really think the majority of Americans care that information regarding a war that rarely makes the news these days was released? Oh sure, they may grumble at the TV. Some may call an elected "representative" and that'll be it.

In Breaking News is an article about the WH approving the release of the Lockerbie bomber....... a nickel says that outside of FR, maybe Glenn Beck/Limbaugh ......[crickets].

The electorate deserves the government it gets; they deserve the loss of liberty they voted for. They deserve the unemployment, they deserve all of it. The only shame is the ones that swore to uphold and defend the Constitution are the ones who will die because of it and the hard working Americans will be dragged down as well. The crocidile may very well eat me; but I sure hope to see some of these parasites get crapped out first.

Stock food, water, lead, brass, and copper.....

Eventually the sheeple will realize what "fundemental transformation" and "we are the ones we've been waiting for" really mean. Eventually the zombies will find out there isn't money enough to cover their entitlements.

It won't be pretty.

The last time someone gave their opinion, they were forced to retire.

"There needs to be a real crack down."

All the legal tools are there for a crackdown but no modern administration seems willing to exercise them.

First, it's illegal to PUBLISH, TRANSFER and DISSEMINATE Classified information. Every publisher who does so should be imprisoned for no less than 20 years and depending on the nature of the information, hanging.

Second, be willing to reduce the sentence by 1/2 for the publisher/reporter IF they give up their source.

Did they get those documents from Bradley Manning?
(Manning boasted that he had sent 260,000 pages of confidential diplomatic cables to WikiLeaks.)

There's too much PC BS in the military, and it will only get worse, especially if they openly allow perverts into the armed services.
