PHOENIX (Reuters) - Nicaraguan mother Lorena Aguilar hawks a television set and a few clothes on the baking sidewalk outside her west Phoenix apartment block.
A few paces up the street, her undocumented Mexican neighbour Wendi Villasenor touts a kitchen table, some chairs and a few dishes as her family scrambles to get out of Arizona ahead of a looming crackdown on illegal immigrants.
"Everyone is selling up the little they have and leaving," said Villasenor, 31, who is headed for Pennsylvania. "We have no alternative. They have us cornered."
The two women are among scores of illegal immigrant families across Phoenix hauling the contents of their homes into the yard this weekend as they rush to sell up and get out before the state law takes effect on Thursday.
The law, the toughest imposed by any U.S. state to curb illegal immigration, seeks to drive more than 400,000 undocumented day labourers, landscapers, house cleaners, chambermaids and other workers out of Arizona, which borders Mexico.
It makes being an illegal immigrant a state crime and requires state and local police, during lawful contact, to investigate the status of anyone they reasonably suspect of being an illegal immigrant.
The U.S. government estimates 100,000 unauthorized migrants left Arizona after the state passed an employer sanctions law three years ago requiring companies to verify workers' status using a federal computer system. There are no figures for the number who have left since the new law passed in April.
Some are heading back to Mexico or to neighbouring states. Others are staying put and taking their chances.

You’ll have to make a decision for the Senate race. So let’s hear it instead of the same whining that gets no other responses because it is getting old. So if you can’t be a part of the solution, at least hold your nose for 98% of what you want instead of lip service and less than 10%from any other choice.
I like you are not happy that Marco dissed the AZ law before he knew what was in it, but then again he stands on his earlier assetion that it is the Feds job and would rather shame them into enforcing the laws or have the standing to make it an issue on the floor of the Senate. Will any of the other choices make a move in that direction?
On the other hand, if he will be a U.S. Senator, then he does not have a state level legislative vote on the issue when, hopfully soon to be Gov. Scott, pushes through the state law that mirrors Arizona’s. I met Rick Scott yesterday and he is committed to passing it post haste and he has the statistical support of Florida voters as a mandate.

Bob Smith has already pulled out so that is gone. What we really need is for conservatives to get behind Marco with the mindset that he will take the fight to the Federal level while we do what we can on the state and local levels. The only indy is Crist and any other candidate in the mix will only assure Charlie gettng the seat. Is that what you are willing to go down for? Charlie continues to screw us sideways at every turn by insulting our intelligence so the only way to make sure he doesn’t get in there is to get Marco to DC and let him fight the fight up there.

Well Rick Scott the bald guy who supports AZ will get my vote. Crist or Meek will not get it but I doubt I will vote for Rubio.
