What Happens When The Tropical Storm Bonnie Hits The Oil Spill?

Tropical Depression Three is going to become Tropical Storm Bonnie sometime today. And guess where it's headed.

BP has already halted relief well drilling and evacuated all non-critical vessels from the area -- and may soon evacuate everyone from the area. The well is capped for now and hopefully won't pop open or crack any more leaks during the delay.

Here's a map of where the storm's heading from NOAA (with the oil spill dropped on top):

About 2 miles from my house there is a power pole with a sign at the top. The sign says “During a Cat 5 hurricane the storm surge will be this high”.

Its a good 25 feet high.

Maybe Bonnie can find the missing oil. Seems like the clean up crew is having trouble.

We live 40 miles from the Gulf at an elevation of 3 feet above sea level. Experts predict a Cat 5 would put us at 20 feet below sea level at low tide. So where can I rent a sumbarine cheap and on short notice? Don’t think my snorkel tube is going to cut it.

Mother Nature continually produces miracles.

I'll lay a few bucks that says when the tropical storm passes, if the winds are over 60mph, there will be no oil found on or in the sea, or border swamps afterwords.

A: We get to find out whether the proposals for taming hurricanes by putting oil on the surface of the water so they can’t pick up as much moisture would actually work.

"nothing"

Don't be such a pessimist. The storm could actually stir up the remaining oil to the point that it oxidizes and disappears completely into the Gulf. Given Rush's comparison that the oil volume equivalent is the same as a can of beer in a football stadium: What happens when you spill a can of beer in a football stadium during a rain storm? It disappears.

All the Benzene and Corexit will combine into a flammable firestorm, consuming the gulf states.

Good thing the SAints won a Super Bowl before it happened.

Well, that's gonna put the rest of the states short on fuel for a while, ain't it?

Of course. We do our cooking with benzene rings.

Haven't tried Corexit. Might add a little flavor.
