Following comments from Senate Democrats expressing willingness to extend Bush tax cuts, the White House dispatched Tim Geithner to kill the buzz.
Tim just announced Obama's plans to let the tax cuts expire for wealthy Americans in January, according to WSJ. Which is what people expected all along.
WSJ:
Mr. Geithner said there is "still some uncertainty about how strong the recovery is going to be," which may be impacting spending decisions by businesses and individuals. But he discounted that as a reason to extend the Bush-era tax cuts for top earners, saying most private forecasts show moderate economic growth and increasing public confidence in the recovery.
He also rejected concerns voiced by business groups and many Republicans that the administration's economic policies are creating uncertainty and holding back private investment. "Business always wants their taxes lower and always wants to live with less regulation," he said, adding that U.S. firms are "doing very well
competing around the world."

Funny how the liberals believe that people are innately good but foment class hatred. The means justify their ends no matter if it’s immoral, unethical, or evil.
Me too. Plus the marriage penalty.
Tim just announced Obama’s plans to let the tax cuts expire for wealthy Americans in January....
For the wealthy, my butt. This will affect everyone -especially young married couples.
“Our “poor” are rediculously “rich” by most of the world’s standards...”
Depends. If you’re poor, no job and living on the street, you’re poor. It’s a very tough life, regardless of whether you’re in the USA or Cambodia.
I still take the US any day. This isn’t about the poor for BO. He is just targeting his base: Unions who are job killers and the ‘poor’ who need a reason to stay that way.
Man. I sure am sorry...I was feeling pretty low the last couple of weeks. Just a lot of bad news, both personal and public. I stopped listening to Rush and Levin too.
Gotta work my way out of it, because I do believe it is true, that they WANT us to be dispirited.
It plays into their hands.
As usual, it’s the old “It’s so because we say it is so”.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Of course, being homeless, without money or food is poor. But such as these are a relatively tiny portion of the U.S. What we see here in the U.S. in classifying as poor are people with decent cars, government-subsidized housing, food (many "poor" people are pretty portly if not obese) and generally decent surroundings - what most truly poor people in the world would kill for.
The classification as poor is no longer an issue of measuring resources, but a tool to use in the game of class envy. Politicians, particularly Democrats, know this, and use it with adept skill to demonize anyone who happens to have more than another person.
What recovery?
Unemployment continues in the 9.5 % and up range and if you include the unemployed who have given up (but probably still collecting unemployment benefits), the real unemployment numbers approach 17%-18%. Tax cuts would help the economy and possibly allow some small businesses to hire people again. Tax increases as will happen January 1, 2011 will hurt the economy and probably lead to even higher unemployment.
Tim Geithner is a lib liar who has never held a real job.
I know what's happening and what must be done. I know the enemy and their tactics. I don't need to listen to it 10+ hours a day, at some point it becomes counter productive to keep having your nose rubbed in sh*t, right?
Keep your chin up! Have fun in Maine.
John Gault, can you here me? Are you out there?
Same definition as “Zimbabwe rich”.
If you be white and have assets, you be too rich my friend.
I LIKE IT!!!!!!
Absolutely correct. But they're on to that, too. I've heard talk of “wealth” tax. If they keep going unchecked, it will be a crime to own or save anything. If it is in a bank, it'll be theirs. If it is in property, it will be theirs.
It keeps hitting me in the face, day after day ... we are continually being sold the sin of jealousy. That is what our current government is pitching, that is what the race-leaders pitch.
“Tim Geithner Just Quashed Hopes Of A Bush Tax Cut Extension”
20% unemployment HERE WE COME!
I think Obama’s Insane Clown Posse will be unpleasantly surprised by the political climate come then.
Please, lets stop using this term wealthy to describe the highest bracket taxpayers. The 33% bracket runs from the 170s to the low 200s for single or married. The 35% kicks in at 373k.
Ask professionals or business owners who work their asses off if they thing theyre wealthy.
I think it really depends on geographics. My wife and I gross just under $60,000 a year combined but in our little county we are considered middle to upper middle class.
It's my understanding that Geithner has NEVER worked in the private sector. He's been on boards and he's worked for the government. I.e. he's basically skated his way to wealth...and he ain't no hockey player.
