HOUSTON/LONDON (Reuters) Energy giant BP Plc said on Monday that seepage near its Gulf of Mexico well was unrelated to the massive oil leak that has at least temporarily been capped.
BP shares, which had dropped more than 6 percent after engineers detected seepage on the floor of the Gulf after the well was capped on Thursday, recovered in late trade on the news. They were down 3.9 percent in late afternoon trading in New York.
BP spokesman Mark Proegler told Reuters: "Scientists have concluded that the seep was naturally occurring."

fyi
As my son said, oil seeping from the ocean floor in the Gulf may be one of the reasons there are 2000 oil wells in the Gulf.
If it’s pours out of the ground(oceanfloor), then there’s probably a bunch of it under the ground.
To cap or uncap...
Same scientists who work the global warming circuit???
The permanent fix is within a couple of weeks from being totally completed and that doesn’t fit Obamah agenda or vacation schedule.
August recess....He’ll probably take off for Hawaii...Scr** the USA...right??
Nope. Scientists that get paid to find oil.
No results, no getting hired.
I want Obama on vacation.
The more vacation, the less harm he can do.
Beware of wishful thinking.
Why did the natural seep just appear now and coincident to the shut-in. If the shut-in pressures are unstable something is wrong.
*Update * Well remains sealed despite vague concerns; BP says seep not connected with well test
Seepage is not a done deal yet however, Thad admitted a couple hours ago that a couple of more seeps located within a few hundred meters of the wellhead still need to be checked out.
I’m siding on BP on this one until we get some solid evidence to the contrary. For all we know that earthquake in the gulf you posted on the other day could have shaken up some of the oil beds a bit in the whole general area.
They weren’t looking so carefully before they started the test?
Unfortunately, the best way to confirm would be to open the well and see if they go away.
OK thanks.
I just scanned that article and kind of decided it was another writer trying to get rewarded by the DoomsDay crowd.
How I have no idea.
BP drilled a hole 35,000’ deep and now we find out that a few miles away oil is seeping out of the sea bed?
Oil seeps out of most of the Gulf sea bed, and has done sice time immemorial.
Spanish ships used to re-caulk their hulls from the tarred-up beaches bordering the gulf.
