Newt Gingrich Still Thinks Political Consultants Are 'Stupid'
Politics Daily ^ | July 17, 2010 | Matt Lewis

Posted on 07/17/2010 12:47:52 PM PDT by yongin

Today's Washington Post includes a somewhat controversial quote from former Speaker Newt Gingrich on the subject of political consultants: "Consultants, in my opinion, are stupid," he tells them.

... It turns out, this is not a new revelation. In fact, three years ago, I reported on Gingrich's disdain for political consultants when I interviewed him in in Atlanta, Georgia.

Here's what he had to say back in 2007:

I think Republican consultants are mostly very stupid. I think they have no education. I think they have no sense of history. ... If I throw away African Americans, and then I throw away Latinos, and then I throw away suburban women, and then I throw away people under 40, and then I throw away everything north of Philadelphia -- there's a morning where Republicans can't get to a majority. It's worth noting that back in 2007, Gingrich said consultants were "mostly" stupid, but in today's Washington Post column, he seems to have removed the qualifier.

Interestingly, when I wrote that 2007 post, I also asked some of the top GOP consultants in America to respond to Newt's condemnation. Surprisingly, most of them (sort of) agreed with him.

On another note, that same Washington Post column also notes that after Labor Day, Republicans plan to unveil a "blueprint of what Republicans will do if they take back control of the chamber." Might I suggest they check out my "Contract With America, 2.0"?

If a consultant recommended to Newt that he sit on a couch on a beach with Nasty Pelousi and vomit forth the lie of man made globull warming...then Newt is right, consultants are idiots.

I think on the Republican side, Atwater was not, and Rove is not stupid. I think Carville is pretty smart on the Democrat side. The rest are mostly stupid.

Axelrod did outsmart Carville in 2008, but that was primary efforts, not general election efforts.

Dick Morris can sometimes be smart, sometime stupid.

Newt is working with Michael Steele and John Boehner to craft a message for the GOP this fall.

Also Newt recommends the Tea Parties to hold townhall meetings with the NAACP to find common ground.

Good! Remind the American people of the grave stakes in this upcoming election! Make the contrast STARK and REAL!

Who’s going to develop this “blueprint”, I wonder.

Yeah,
So in ancient history Newt led the pubbies in a great overthrow of the tax and spend dems.
Then his band of merry men spent MY money like drunk sailors on shore leave after 6 months at sea.
Now adays Newt is seen with Hillary and Nancy and other such garbage.

“Here’s what he had to say back in 2007:

There is one republican consultant, Muslim convert Grover Norquist, that Gingrich just loves....and he’s as big of an open border/amnesty lover as Newt!

Grover Norquist is “the person who I regard as the most innovative, creative, courageous and entrepreneurial leader of the anti-tax efforts and of conservative grassroots activism in America . . . He has truly made a difference and truly changed American history.”— Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA)

Candidates need only subscribe to Freerepublic to get the pulse of the nation, at least the sane part of the nation.

Axelrod didn’t outsmart Carville in the primaries/caucuses, he out-cheated him. Obama stole the nomination from Clinton by outright fraud and political thuggery.

If the GOP run Newt in ‘12 we’re finished. He can’t win.
