Margaret Thatcher's family are 'appalled' at Meryl Streep film

Although the prospect of Meryl Streep playing Margaret Thatcher may have pleased some admirers of the Conservative former prime minister, her children have been horrified to discover more about the film. Mandrake hears that the screenplay of The Iron Lady depicts Baroness Thatcher as an elderly dementia-sufferer looking back on her career with sadness. She is shown talking to herself and unaware that her husband, Sir Denis Thatcher, has died. Fiennes family home for sale“Sir Mark and Carol are appalled at what they have learnt about the film,” says a friend of the family. “They think it sounds like some Left-wing fantasy. They feel strongly about it, but will not speak publicly for fear of giving it more publicity." Cameron McCracken, the managing director of the film-maker Pathé, confirms: "It is true that the film is set in the recent past and that Baroness Thatcher does look back on both the triumphs and the lows of her extraordinary career. "It is a film about power and the price that is paid for power. In that sense, it is the story of every person who has ever had to balance their private life with their public career." He says Lady Thatcher's health will be featured, but insists that it will be “treated with appropriate sensitivity”. He adds of the film: “Although fictional, it will be fair and accurate.”

Surprise, surprise! Baroness Thatcher is diminished in a Leftist Bio-pic starring raving Leftist Meryl Streep. My favorite quote.....'although fictional, it will be fair and accurate'. Yeah, right.

“Although fictional, it will be fair and accurate.”

The world truly has gone insane.

Fake, but accurate.

Paging Mr. Rather, Dan Rather, please pick up the courtesy phone...

There is so much trash to boycott.
I think I’ll go see Mel Gibson’s next film instead. He needs the money to pay his lawyers.

I pray it bombs. Although, I'm sure the critics will say it wasn't because of Streep's acting. It was because of Thatcher's unpopularity.

Can't win no matter what.

In my opinion, this film will bomb big time. They are attempting this smear of Lady Thatcher at a time in our history when conservatism is in its ascendancy. Those who will view and appreciate such a film will be few. And too, it is encouraging that these leftists keep trying and failing.

Conservatives won’t see a film that attacks Margaret Thatcher.

Liberals won’t see a film about Margaret Thatcher.

That also stood out to me: “although fictional, it will be fair and accurate” How is it that fictional can be considered accurate when dealing with a non-fictional life?

The viewer of this movie will no doubt be forced to sit through Streep’s reprisal of Isak Denison’s character, in ‘Out of Africa’, who, being elderly and ill, is lying in bed, mumbling “I had a farm in Africa” only it will be a fictional account of Lady Thatcher and play out with her lying in bed mumbling “I once had power in Britain” or some such nonsense. Streep no doubt is relishing her role as demolisher of truth.

No surprise here. Thatcher is conservative, and therefore all the lefties feel that they have the right to trash her. Changing history and destroying good people is what lefties like to do.

Well, surprise surprise. Another leftist rewriting history.

I’m so mad at all this, I could spit nails.

I am writing lesson plans for my homeschoolers - and I look for different historical documentaries. Most of them make me ill, because so have completely rewritten history to fit their agenda.

(By the way, if anyone has a resource where I can find accurate documentaries please let me know!)

Frankly, a movie about Thatcher wouldn’t be appealing to most simply because of the average Americans lack of knowledge in history. Which was made insanely apparent in Nov ‘08 and continues today. This film was made STRICTLY to trash Thatcher and to “enlighten” the great unwashed. It will likely be featured in the classroom by leftist history teachers as is Gore’s piece of trash.

I posted this, a few weeks ago, right as it was announced that Streep would play Thatcher.

http://www.freerepublic.com./focus/f-chat/2545142/posts

Some people took issue with me because I had a real problem with Streep in the role. Their thought was that Streep is a great actress, and there was no reason to believe it would anything less than great performance.

It appears however, that my fears were well-founded.

Funny, I can’t recall ever seeing a film which depicted as insane - or even in the grip of dementia - Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Che, Pol Pot, or Uncle Ho.

Heroes of the Left are sacrosanct.

Shocked! /s

I was watching an old (1969-1970ish) Monty Python skit and they made some comment about stupid people and promptly flashed a photo of Margaret Thatcher on the screen. I was shocked because I hadn't realized lib hatred of her extended that far back in time. Their hatred hasn't improved any since then.

“Conservatives won’t see a film that attacks Margaret Thatcher.

Liberals won’t see a film about Margaret Thatcher.”

And I will bet that there is a sizble number of the population who don’t even know who Margaret Thatcher is. That concerns me.

Would we expect anything less from Hollywood? They will always portray conservatives in the wort possible light and depicting Lady Thatcher, as they did Ronald Reagan, as dementia addled fits this model very well.
