Tonight, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) will debate his primary challengers, former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) and conservative "tea party" activist Jim Deakin in one of only two Republican primary debates.
During the one hour debate, Hayworth will likely concentrate on McCain's 28 years in Congress with a focus on his position on immigration. Deakin said he will compare and contrast his approach in representing constituents to the "other two entrenched politicians." A McCain campaign spokesman said that the Senator "looks forward to a spirited discussion on the issues facing Arizonans."
The LIVE debate will take place tonight at KTVK-TV in Phoenix, Arizona.
I want to look back through the thread to read about Deakin because someone told me the scuttlebutt says he’s a Paultard - a vote splitter for sure - get the hell out - he’s hurting JD.
I agree that Mc got mad a lot tonight and I think it showed. I hope this debate gets a large viewership with the voters.
Loved it when JD said something to the effect of
“If you had attacked Obama as much as you’re attacking me, you might be President right now.”
WHACK!!!
With McCain, “tooting one’s own horn” means passing gas, and I bet that McCain would win such a contest.
LOL. That;s right and didn’t JD accuse him of HUCKSTERISM?
rotflol.
I know I have to record an airing of the debate! CSPAN will play it several times.
He's still playing to a national audience. I don't think that will be helpful here where we know him.
That’s unfortunate you didn’t hear JD’s Pro-American responses. He didn’t have to read the Constitution tonight for me to know his responses were for the American citizen, our national security and financial well being.
Unfortunately Deakin had two opponents to go after and he needed to appeal to the tea party base. His job was huge. I’ll give him points for going the distance.
If he choked up at the end, he lost me with his quick recovery or maybe it was just a hiccup.
OH YEAH, I think so!!!! lol!
I loved how JD just kept hammering and hammering, and McC kept turning away in rage/disgust.
No matter what else, JD HAS been against amnesty all along. I remember that from way back, I think the early 90s when I first started hearing his name. Things happen and other issues change and stuff, but in my book, he’s been consistent on that.
And McC has consistently been for open borders and for the destruction of our sovereignty. Teddy K’s best friend.
The MSM is horrified and I doubt we’ll see anywhere in ink that JD smacked him.
I’m starting to feel hope again.
I can't stand when these lying maggots, in this case McCommie, pretend to sympathize with the little people and how we want jobs. Give me a flippin' break.
I hope some folks noticed that JD quietly but forcefully controlled the debate tonight.

I can’t last any longer. I’m 2 hours ahead of you. Another debate tomorrow night, IIRC? Post the LIVE thread and I’ll see you on it!
That is so true. I believe that the MSM will totally ignore this debate. It is now up to us. JD was great.
I didn’t listen to a word Deakin said. He was a waste of valuable time, but I’m sure he thinks JD is a certain loser too. I have no idea where the dweeb came from, but you’re right about the power he and his ilk derive from splitting the vote.
I thought JD was masterful tonight and his closing statement was one of the best I’ve heard from any candidate.
Not me. Not you. Not most Freepers...but most of the Republican voters in AZ like McCain. When someone I don't like makes a charge against someone I like, my natural reaction is to discount the charges and defend the guy I like.
I doubt JD did much to decrease McCain's support with recitations of McCains record. Conservatives hate McCain. JD should have the conservative vote already. He doesn't need to tell us McCain's a RINO. AZ GOP voters don't care. McCain was a RINO in 2004 and 2008 and conservatives could not stop him. McCain's 2004 and 2008 supporters didn't care about his opposition to Bush's 2001 and 2003 taxcuts, or his flip flop on immigration.
I came away not liking McCain or JD. I liked Deakin even though he was not polished. I bet his numbers rise while JD's drop.
Yipppeee, can’t wait! Good night, thanks for so much fun tonight :0)
McCain ticked me off right off the bat when he started throwing mud on JD... I guess when you are trying to deflect that is all you have to do....... I loved JD’s where was this nasty McCain in 2008....
I’m hoping JD has been saving his money so he could come on strong at the end, McCain has clearly gone after any money JD had a chance of receiving and he is dependent on us little donors.
I think JD made a strategic mistake by ignoring Deakin, and just attacking Juan. He should have agreed with Deakin more, to co-opted him, and gain the vote of his supporters, then moved to marginalize Juan with direct quotes from his Presidential Campaign, and support for TARP. I came away disappointed in JD's performance and strategy. JD should have mentioned Juan's Soros funding too.
I hope so also. Have been able to give some time but because of the economy am one the many little donors.
Have you seen the new (?) ad for McCain with all the sheriffs. It was really way too much for me.
No, I seldom watch any of our local stations if I can help it... Fox has had some of his ads, not many though.
