New federal regulations issued this week stipulate that the electronic health records--that all Americans are supposed to have by 2014 under the terms of the stimulus law that President Barack Obama signed last year--must record not only the traditional measures of height and weight, but also the Body Mass Index: a measure of obesity.
The obesity-rating regulation states that every American's electronic health record must: Calculate body mass index. Automatically calculate and display body mass index (BMI) based on a patients height and weight.
The law also requires that these electronic health records be available--with appropriate security measures--on a national exchange.

Hi Lib27!
Please see my posting, I believe post number 105 about underground economy.
It is against FR rules to make a statement such as that without sourcing it with many pics on your profile page. We need to be the judges of your guilt!
“We own our own bodies. The government does not.”
That used to be true, however it is no longer applicable. The people begged for the government to take control of their physical beings and their wish has been granted.
Aren’t about 90 percent of our food stamp and welfare recipients morbidly obese?
Great. I’m 5’6” and borderline OBESE by Gov’t standards. All they count (last checkup) is height and weight. Sure, I could lose 5 lbs or so, but as my doc sees it I *need* to lose nothing. Just a BIG guy who got cut short on the vertical front.
All I need is for some stinking “required” regimental diet based on some schmuck’s line in the stinkin’ health bill.
I thought a “Right to Privacy” emanated from the penumbra of the Constitution.
You can kill babies with that right, but everyone gets to know you’re fat?
The problem is the BMI mandate is NOT in the healthcare bill. It was inserted into the Stimulus Bill. Repealing that bill will be moot, as it has already been implemented and the money is being circulated around the government.
What will be necessary is a new, separate bill specifically repealing the BMI mandate, which is tied to the electronic records mandate, which affects medical reimbursements.

You gotta have skin.
All you really need is skin.
Skin’s the thing that if you got it outside,
It helps keep your insides in.
It covers your nose,
And it’s wrapped around your toes.
And inside it you put lemon meringue,
And outside ya hang your clothes.
Skin is what ya feel at home in.
And without it, furthermore,
Both your liver and abdomen
Would keep falling on the floor.
(And you’d be dressed in your intestine)
A Siamese twin
Needs an extra set of skin.
When the doctor knows that you’re feeling sick
Where does he stick his needle in?
In the end of your skin.
All your friends and all your kinfolks,
Whether poor or whether rich,
They have all got lots of skin, folks,
It’s convenient when they itch.
(Nothing can match it when ya scratch it)
It fits perfectly.
Yours fits you, and mine fits me.
When you’re sitting down, it folds and looks grand.
And then when you stand, it’s where it’s been.
Ain’t ya glad you’ve got skin!
When you were just a little baby, why your skin fit fine.
And it still is gonna fit you when you’re six foot nine.
So whether you’re fat, tall, big, small, chubby or thin,
Ain’t ya glad you’ve got skin!
Just don’t step on the scales the next time you go in... or put your hand on the wall... put one foot off... what are they going to do? They can’t force you to be weighed & without it, they can’t calculate your BMI. It would simply be someone’s opinion that you “appear” to be obese. It’s no different then declining certain vaccinations that you don’t feel are necessary.
I have no stats, but around here it sure looks that way.
Thanks for the clarification.
I’ll go along with this as long as they track people with AIDs and HIV and how much they are costing in healthcare. I would also like to add in people who live in high-crime areas and those affiliated with gangs.
Agreed. With McConnell and Boehner leading the charge, I fight a daily battle against frustration and pessimism. Fortunately, powerful conservative forces are also at work (go tea party!!) and maybe some of these go along to get along types will see the light.
Well one thing we know. Republicans do respond to fear. They just have to realize the safe spot is DOING SOMETHING WORTHWHILE for a change rather than hiding in their offices! (:-)
I so agree with you there. Fear is the healthiest thing we can instill in our elected officials right now. I’d be happy if they couldn’t sleep at night, for fear the electorate has finally woken up and had enough. I hope Nov is an electoral bloodbath unlike anything they’ve ever seen.
Ditto! :-)
It's also only a matter of time before seeing a doc isn't required for this to be mandated ... want your driver's license or ID card? Submit to this blood/urinalysis first, and then we'll see about issuing you your papers.
