You know the part in the science fiction or horror movie where the smart guys who caused the problem think they fixed it and they start high-fiving one another and break out the cigars while those of us in the audience are screaming “watch out”!!! and covering our eyes?
I cannot help but shake that emotion.

Here's a particulary good post from The Oil Drum thread on this subject:
"What a surprise. Sound engineering by real engineers finally fixed the problem. Without tectonic plate shift, without gigantic End Of World methane bubbles, without the whole world ending up waist deep in crude oil. Perhaps all the doom merchants & conspiracy theorists can now slink off quietly. Move right along. Nothing to see here. We simply had one of a thousand steel pipes break, possibly due to human error. Could have happened anywhere to anyone. Life's like that. You really think that this BP well (being operated by a US firm) is anything special? Was it the only one in the whole wide world with such problems? Of course not - there are probably many more out there. This whole circus has been exploited by Obama & other US politicians. BP will now be looted by US lawyers and the US government - perhaps with background support of US oil interests. Maybe US citizens will be taken in by this whole thing - but those outside the US can clearly see the US response for what it was - and will continue to be - a thieving operation."

Man, I knew I should have invested in BP while it was low. It had nowhere to go but up.

That is what you call counting your chickens before they hatch. This is still a blown out well. Just temporarily contained. They still need to cement this thing. Right now they will be running sonar tests to detect movement in the area around the wellhead. So the actual factual picture right now is that have dangerously increased the pressure on a blown out well head and they are running sonar to see if the pressure is starting to leak oil up through areas of the damaged well bore. BTW - The internal pressure sensors are only update every 12 seconds. They could conceivably lose control of the well again if she ruptures and they would only learn this after the fact.

I'm not the only one who feels deep and abiding disgust with Shepard Smith? His blathering today must set some sort of stupidity quotient record.
The pretty boy queen must have repeated thirty times, "If they can cap it now why didn't they do it months ago?". Jeeze that is irritating. Problem is, his competition is even more irritating (though it is close).
