Not sure how rapidly they ramp up pressure, this is a few hours old.. They want to achieve high pressure , preferably above 7OOO or 8OOO, if it is lower than 3ooo , then concerns over leakage deeper down could muck things up a bit..

Damn the torpedoes. Full Steam Ahead!

So far the ROVCAMS do not show any oil flowing.

So now, Obama will send 50 more ROVCAMS down to monitor the well, and one will inevitably bump into the cap and knock it off.

NEW ORLEANS – A tightly fitted cap was successfully keeping oil from gushing into the Gulf of Mexico for the first time in three months, BP said Thursday. The victory — long awaited by weary residents along the coast — is the most significant milestone yet in BP’s effort to control one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history.

Kent Wells, a BP PLC vice president, said at a news briefing that oil stopped flowing into the water at 2:25 p.m. CDT after engineers gradually dialed down the amount of crude escaping through the last of three valves in the 75-ton cap.
...

The stoppage came 85 days, 16 hours and 25 minutes after the first report April 20 of an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig that killed 11 workers and triggered the spill.

Yes I can, having worked in field&technical support with computers for years.

Very cool. Was a Computer Field Engineer myself for over 10 years. That was career number 1. Had some flashbacks when they had to replace the Choke assembly this morning.

“Is Obama still down there with his thumb in the leak?”

That would solve an array of problems.

He’d be plugging the damn hole and he’d be out of our hair.

Win-Win.

Once AGAIN, that is the pressure indicator for the hydralic equipment, NOT the well.

;-)

The ROV pressure gauges are useless. They monitor the internal pressure with transducers that send signals up to the rigs or offices on land. That data is in raw format and needs to be run through an algorithm to be useful. So they are looking at computer screens to see the converted pressure values.

More like this:

BP announces that there is no oil leaking into the Gulf from the busted well despite massive efforts by the obama administration to block all their efforts.

Now they have to find another crisis to exploit.

I’d bet there are some real angry people in the White House about now.

BP has said that there are no gages that the ROVs will be able to see. There are pressure transducers inside the Seal Cap that will send the measurments to surface ships every 12 seconds. Watching a gage from a ROV vid is useless.

The Mighty Kenyan claiming credit in 3-2-1.

I made the mistake of turning on Must Stop Noticing Barack's Channel …

Sure enough, the Washington Post's Jonathan Capeheart was on the Dylan Ratigan show calling the stoppage of the flow of oil into the Gulf "a great day for the President and a great day for the Administration."

BARF.

Good news if true.

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t believe BP if they told me grass was green.

I am also skeptical. Facts are the well was not developed to begin with, that is why they were abandoning it , because it was out of control.

What makes anyone think that this well is magically under control and not leaking 30,000 psi into the mucky silt 1,000 feet below the cap

That’s exactly what I’d been thinking. He seemed more or less sane until that day on the overpass where he was wringing his hands and falling apart on air. Maybe the heat got to his brain. Wearing a full suit and tie with a ton of makeup might do that to someone.

Ain’t that the truth. Between Geraldo and Shep I always end up wanting to slap the crap out of someone.

I’m good for the bail money if you promise to capture it all on camera for my viewing pleasure.

Speaking of things that cheer me up: even if I wake up in a bad mood I just have to remind myself that OJ and Joran van der Sloot are on the inside looking out. It never fails. I feel better almost immediately.
