BP Says It MIGHT Stop The Leak Completely Today

If a new sealing cap is lowered successfully, BP could stop the oil leak today.
Of course we're all waiting to be disappointed after Top Hat, Top Kill and the Lower Marine Riser Package failed. If today's operation (the 3-Ram Capping Stack) fails, our best hope defaults to relief wells that may be completed in mid-August.
Here's how today's fix is going to work (Times Picayune):
The cap, which is essentially a small blow out preventer with a cap on top, has the potential to completely shut in the flow of oil from the well. It will be lowered into place sometime today, Suttles said.
After it is in place, BP along with government scientists will conduct a series of "well integrity" tests to determine if the condition of the well. If it is not compromised and oil is not escaping from holes beneath the surface, the well will be shut in until a relief well is completed next month to permanently stop the flow. If the well is compromised, crews will resume sucking oil to ships on the surface. The tests could take 48 hours or longer.
Along with the increased use of skimmers and international help, it seems like this disaster will come to an end. Unless you believe various apocalyptic claims about a giant methane bubble.

Gas prices dropped because of the crappy economy.
T second pipe won’t affect the cap. Any problems now will be deep in the well string.
IOW, the demand dropped even faster than the supply?
Bambi will take FULL credit, order the wellhead sealed forever, declare Gulf drilling an environmental hazard, close more refineries because they pollute the air, continue his march to totally destroy USA (TEOTWAWKI)
Thanks. I just saw it.
If it succeeds, he vacations in Maine. If it fails, he vacations in Maine.
I attribute it to the slow economy
I've been noticing gas prices going up and down since about the time I noticed that girls gave me a certain tingly feeling.
There are 12 ROVCAMS. Here’s the link. http://www.jtnog.org/
The OIL if still gushing out the top, but it’s now out the top of the TRANSITION SPOOL, which was bolted on to the top flange of the original BOP after they removed the busted flange and riser tube.
TWO of the ROVCAMS had been pointed at the gushing oil for the past two months because they were holding dispersant sprayers aimed into the plume. The ROVCAMS are always POINTED AT what they are WORKING ON.
Lately the CAMS were ‘pointed at’ the bottom flange area of the TRANSITION SPOOL, because that’s where the ROV ARMS were tightening the bolts.
Occasionally, if you watch the FEED of all the ROVCAMS, the ROV will pan up to the top of the TRANSITION SPOOL where the oil is now gushing from.
So..... NO, they haven’t succeeded yet.
But of course, he will take all the credit.
They CUT those two pipes out of the top of the BOP before ‘seating’ the TRANSITION SPOOL. It was ‘seated’ late last night, and it took until early this morning to finish tightening the bolts.
The seating of the CAP (which is actually a JUNIOR BOP with a sealable cap) is done at the TOP of the Transition Spool, which is at least 10’ away from where those ‘pipes’ used to stick out of the top flange of the BOP.
So... even if they were there, they would not interfere with installation of the NEW BOP assembly.
I don’t think the supply of crude has dropped yet, has it?
This well was still exploratory, so it isn’t effecting supply, and all the production platforms in the gulf are still producing at the same rate as before the spill... so the only thing that’s changed is demand.
I’m sure Obama is hoping like hell that it doesn’t work....but what he’s really counting on is the money from fines that will bring BP to their knees. Tey, Obama is crud.
Dunno. That depends on what executive orders are in place today, doesn't it?
When I got done, I got so excited that it wasn't leaking, I called my dad to tell him that "I Did IT".
LOL - I won’t bore you with a list of the plumbing disasters that I have engineered over the years...
If you have the computer hp to view this (and the bandwidth)

(all of them)
I thought I heard one of the arms tell the other one, you forgot the drill!!!! or whatever. ROFL. That was just a joke that went through my head.
Sometimes it looks like those arms are actually going to shake hands.
