As the weeks grind by, I'm hearing more back-room chatter from Republicans that this election may be slipping through their fingers, despite the apparent vulnerability of Democratic Rep. Bill Owens.
Mr. Owens won a special election victory less than a year ago, inching across the finish line by the narrowest of margins. Since then, Democratic policies and President Barack Obama have lost some luster with voters.
So why aren't Republicans capitalizing? Put bluntly, they despise and distrust each other.
When I talk to GOP stalwarts — the kind of folks who are generally supporting Mr. Doheny — they express open skepticism about their ability to partner with the tea party activists who are supporting Doug Hoffman.

For NCPR, it was a no-brainer: we have a topnotch reporter who can certainly add to the work being done by NPR for the American public. This is a big story. It needs all the resources we can muster to cover it. Go get ‘em, Brian!

I would guess that "tea party" candidates are heavily funded by the rat party...just like perot...and look how Toon was elected..
The NY Republican party is so screwed up that it’s going to probably squander the best opportunity it’s had in a generation.
They need to be taught a serious lesson. It is unfortunate that this lesson has to happen at a time when it could cost the national party dearly, but these NY GOPers must be taught the lesson.
They are trying to force Loosio on us for governor. They refuse to run a real candidate against Gillibrand. They continue to mess around with the rank and file on all of the available house seats. Well, my friends, the story is that it’s going to be scorched earth for conservatives in NY VERY damn soon.
The results will be very ugly and will affect the national GOP’s chances of gaining the house/senate. It is unfortunate that they have left the few of us who care (also known as their base who can kill their chances of winning) hanging out to dry.

So in NY-23, a district I once called home, I would endorse Hoffman.
That said, Hoffman's new third party threats, his populist mocking of Doheny's Wall Street experience, his whiny voice and his ugly yellow teeth makes him somebody I don't like very much.
Concerns on Tea-party Republican v. Establishment Republican applies to other places too. Yet, I'm hoping that come November they cast their votes for the primary winner.
Maybe RINO Newt can screw it up again even more. Sh*thead RINO and RINOs in NY-23.

This state is destroying itself with all the corrupt politicians from both sides... That is why I drafted Paladino. The 23rd seat is a disaster once again....
I’m with you and Carl. Unfortunately, these people aren’t going to give up without losing the battle completely. The good news is that we can win the war, but it means probably losing the election.
Why should he step out? This is a PRIMARY. This is where the ideas between Republican candidates are supposed to be hashed out.
It's my understanding that the only reason he got into the race last time was because a committee of leaders, NOT the voters, chose Dede Scozzafava, so he wanted the voters to have a real choice. Now, if he's defeated in the primary, THEN decides to run as an independent, that wouldn't be be good for the party, and at that point I'd say he'd had his chance, and should step down.
Interesting though, that a MR. Scozzafava is one of the people being quoted as favoring Mr. Owens. I guess he and Dede weren't very strong Republicans.

theory: this district is scattered across such a large area (of 200 or so towns or more) ... that there are thousands or local pols that have an opinion on this, each with access to a small town newspaper.
So it’s easy for a nobody talking to a nobody reporter to create a story. In most CD’s (like mine for example), there are fewer towns, fewer local pols, and most of them don’t have access to the press to create stories like this. (In fact, this minor league battling takes place in primaries all over the country in just about every race. It just isn’t published in the press to this extent.)
So there is nothing new under the sun here.

Moriah is a beautiful little town, but you can see that in elections, it amounts to a spot of oil in the road. And they are quoting the town supervisor’s endorsement as something significant?
All the following should be competitive seats and at least half of them should be GOP pickups: NY 1, 13, 29, 20, 23, 24, 25. But in many of them a true conservative is being sabotaged by a RINO and the RINO’s supporters and party leaders. I hope Doheny beats Hoffman in NY 23.
I’m not a RINO fan. I just though Hoffman ran terrible campaign last time and don’t think he’ll do any better this time. I wish there were a real conservative in that race who could win. I just don’t think Hoffman can. I hope I’m pleasantly surprised.
After doing some more research, the only thing I could find where Doheny could be pegged as a RINO is the he is pro-abortion in the first trimester. On other issues, he passes the conservative test unless his website and articles concerning his views are not true.
Chris Gibson, who is the presumptive candidate in NY 20, has the same view on abortion, but is also conservative on other issues of import.
