President Obama's pick to lead military operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and the Middle East is an experienced ground combat commander, but also earned a stern rebuke in 2005 for controversial comments about combat operations.
Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis, then a lieutenant general, told a crowd in San Diego that it was "fun to shoot some people" and said that some Afghans deserved to die.
"You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years, because they didn't wear a veil," Mattis said. "You know guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot 'em." (Watch Mattis's comments in the video above.)
Then-Marine Corps Commandant Michael W. Hagee told Mattis to choose his words "more carefully," but also praised him as "one of the country's bravest and most experienced military leaders."

The caption of your poster does not align with the current official ROE. It does, however, align with my personal ROE: grab ‘em by the gonads and their hearts and minds will follow. I think that was where Gen. Mattis was going with his comment.
He stold that line from civil war General John Pope who said the same thing about the Confederacy.
Sherman had a quote along the same lines just prior to his "march to the sea", too.....
I don`t care how many stars Gen. James Mattis has, but i say we give him another one.

Mattis’ words are awesome by the way.
When lefties ask me if Obama has done anything right, which they ask constantly since I am so negative... I have something to point to.
He probably stole that from Freeper Squantos.
General Patton-—My kind of soldier and leader. Iraqi vet
I was told that way back in 1972 when I enlisted .
Been my tag line for long time here but I was not the origin of that great line......neither was the General......LOL !
Repeat it often and loud !
