Popular California Flag Mural Deemed Graffiti, Painted Over

California residents are up in arms that a flag mural — paying homage to victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks — was painted over after the state ruled it was graffiti.

State transportation workers on Thursday turned the 35-foot hillside mural on Interstate 680 in Silicon Valley back into a gray slab of concrete, KTVU-TV reported. The explanation? It simply had been put on a list for graffiti remove, one official said.

But the landmark had been a favorite among residents and motorists. "It just made me feel really patriotic just seeing it every day," motorcyclist Dave Freely told KTVU-TV.

The artist behind the mural, Eric Noda, was among those confused as to why the state suddenly deemed the flag graffiti and motioned to take it down. "It should not be classified as graffiti. I mean it was a well-done flag and I felt like it's part of America," said Noda said.

I imagine it offended the Muzzies. Gang graffiti is okay but no American flags are allowed.

What are Americans doing in California, anyway? Shouldn’t they all go back to the United States and stop trying to force their culture on the natives?

With Bam as President, anything patriotic will slowly disappear. The left has been knocking patriotism and calling it jingoism for some time. This is just part of the plan.

It sure would be interesting to have the name, rank, and serial number of the nitwit at Caltrans that gave the final orders to do this. Really deserves a full-fledged YOUTUBE.

Many here say if Micheal Angelo painted the Sistine Chapel without permission it would be graffiti.

In the city I live in and many others gang graffiti is covered in day or two. The school where my mom worked graffiti was checked for and painted over every school day before classes started.

Those obama pictures in government buildings? Graffiti.

I’ve sent out orders to paint over them with gray paint.

(07-02) 17:15 PDT San Francisco — Three men who painted an American flag on a retaining wall along Interstate 680, only to see it covered this week by Caltrans workers who treated it as graffiti, got an apology from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday.

“To do so only days before we celebrate our independence and reflect on the freedoms we are lucky enough to enjoy in America is unconscionable,” the governor said in a statement. “I extend my apologies to the artists whose mural inspired drivers along 680 for over eight and a half years.”

I have the urge to get a crew together to go out there and paint it on Sunday dawn.

5 people should be able to do it in an hour - 2 to paint and 1 to carry the paint around. 1 to make sure everything stays lined up and 1 to keep a look out.
