The 45-0 vote came four days after a Supreme Court ruling made it almost certain that Chicago's handgun ban would be overturned. The high court ruled Americans have a right to own a gun for self-defense anywhere they live.

The new city ordinance bans gun shops in Chicago and prohibits gun owners from stepping outside their homes, even onto their porches or garages, with a handgun. It will take effect in 10 days.

The Chicago City Council on Friday approved what city officials say is the strictest handgun ordinance in the U.S.

You mean, after having the strictest handgun ordinance that was deemed unconstitutional by the SCOTUS, they decided to pass another bunch of laws, which again makes them the 'strictest' and once again will head back to court, because these are MORONS!

That didn’t take long. But the additional expansion of “substantive due process” will last forever.

And how many years will it take to overturn this?Apparently, the Liberals are experts at using the Courts to further their agenda, but also at impeding them when it rules against them. Shameless, but very effective. And the sheeple just bleep.

Requires residents in homes with children to keep them in lock boxes or equipped with trigger locks.

Isn't this much like the DC law that the Heller/Parker decision smote?

So, this will head back to court. There will be many years of litigation to define what constitutes "reasonable" rules.

First Amendment litigation still continues to this day, many years after free speech was finally acknowledged to be more expansive than just "political free speech.

Chicago's new rules most certainly will not stand, but it's going to be something between theirs and those in Utah or Vermont.

The Supreme Court rules on one law and automatically the gun banners make a new one.

The Supreme Court cannot enforce the spirit of the 2nd. Amendment as fast as these dipsticks who are anti Constitution. anti American, anti gun, can pass new ones.

So I have a question for Illinois Freepers familiar with Chicago. When a criminal uses a gun in the commission of a crime in Chicago, is he sure to get a gun-related offense tacked onto whatever else he’s charged with? Or are gun-ownership related charges only reserved for those using them in self-defense? I’m curious as to how it works there.

Worse. They strengthened the foundation of Roe v. Wade.

This is the same septic tank that the President of the United States crawled out of. It is no wonder we are in the shape we are in.

These Chicago bandits will never give up. Never. Look for them to do something similar to what Wash DC has done. “Yeah, you can have your gun, BUT...”
