Thomas Jefferson's Reset Button: Americans have a duty to resist tyrannical government
The Washington Times ^ | July 2, 2010 | Editorial

Posted on 07/02/2010 8:20:15 AM PDT by Abakumov

After independence, Jefferson explained that the Declaration was "an expression of the American mind" intended to "give to that expression the proper tone and spirit called for by the occasion." The result is a timeless document the spirit of which is as applicable today as it was then. The people have the means at their disposal to take back our country and the government from the disconnected oligarchy in Washington. However, this only works if Americans actually step up. To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin, the country will only be a republic if the people are strong enough to keep it.

I agree totally.
Most (including most Freepers) love to talk a good game but few are willing to put their life on hold and risk same for the benefits of liberty.
No more need be said.
You know who you are and I know what I must do.

Unfortunatly the marxists have done a good job of destroying the “American Mind” over the past fifty years by taking over the schools. All teachers should be fired and then rehired after a lengthy interview process, (I can dream can’t I?) Immigration has also killed the American mind, multiculturalism is the death of nationalism. Don’t wear a t-shirt with the flag on it kids, it offends people. The wedge has been driven in quite well by the marxists when they took over the democratic party splitting this nation in two.

Excellent.

Is it just me or does this editorial strike others as unusually bold and ballsy? Even for the Wash Times?

Taxation WITH representation hasn't worked very well, either.

Well, it still recommends the solution through the ballot box so it has not advanced to the Tree of Liberty stage yet.

The prime difference between the situation in 2010 and that of 1776 is that the people now can provide oversight through the election process. The ballot is the corrective mechanism that was unavailable to the Founders. Today's dire situation in Washington has approached the intolerable because too few have gone to the polls to defend their rights against the predatory, permanent governing class in Congress.

This is partially correct. Along the line of your post the other 800 lb gorilla in the room is agenda driven "educational" system that produces mouth-breathing idiots, thus converting a large part of the electorate into zombie voters. They hardly even know the full name of the candidate, much less their platform, background or intentions. Their criteria for voting is "who promises the biggest load of government handouts?"

This is the exact reason they are pushing to amnesty the illegal aliens, they want to push them right into the voting booth. Mostly no education to speak of and usually illiterate in two languages, they want their "cheque del gobierno," food stamps and a map to the local county hospital emergency room.

For the communists-that-call-themselves-democrats the illegal aliens are perfect little drones.

Under title of "The future of democracy in America" at UVA's web site containing quotations of Thomas Jefferson, appears this statement from Mr. Jefferson:

"If we find our government in all its branches rushing headlong... into the arms of monarchy, if we find them violating our dearest rights, the trial by jury, the freedom of the press, the freedom of opinion, civil or religious, or opening on our peace of mind or personal safety the sluices of terrorism, if we see them raising standing armies, when the absence of all other danger points to these as the sole objects on which they are to be employed, then indeed let us withdraw and call the nation to its tents. But while our functionaries are wise, and honest, and vigilant, let us move compactly under their guidance, and we have nothing to fear. . . ." --Thomas Jefferson to William Duane, 1811. ME 13:29

How could Jefferson envision "our government . . . rushing headlong . . . ." or, "violating our dearest rights, the trial by jury, the freedom of the press, the freedom of opinion, civil or religious, or opening on our peace of mind or personal safety the sluices of terrorism"?

Think about these warnings, combined with George Washington's Farewell Address warning on the "dangers of the spirit of Party."

The Fourth of July is a time when American citizens must rediscover the ideas which formed the "American mind" of 1776 in order to understand the warnings of the men who framed the Constitution's safeguards on liberty in 1787.

Most folks of this mindset are waiting to see what happens this November, with the idea that this is the “last chance” for the ballot box.

If the ballot box has been horribly corrupted,
or there is blatant vote fraud,
or blatant voter intimidation resulting in the leftists retaining power,

then it’s time for the Tree of Liberty stage.

If you’re of this mindset,
prepare NOW, don’t wait to get started with your preps until you see how November turns out.

If it turns out all right in November, go camping, eat your food preps and shoot up all that “extra” ammo.

Throw off the tyranny of this government!!!!

tyr·an·ny (tr-n)
n. pl. tyr·an·nies
1. A government in which a single ruler is vested with absolute power.
2. The office, authority, or jurisdiction of an absolute ruler.
3. Absolute power, especially when exercised unjustly or cruelly: “I have sworn . . . eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man” (Thomas Jefferson).

Yes, that was my exact thought. It's actually a brave editorial. With no name on it, it's put forth as the opinion of their entire editorial board.

It's a call to arms, like Common Sense. In this case, the arms are the ballot box, but should that recourse fail...
