New orders for U.S. factory products tumbled much more than expected in May, posting their sharpest drop since the depth of the recession and their first decline in nine months, a government report showed Friday

Well, duh . . . we don’t have a free trade agreement with China. The problem with the “advocates” (I’m being polite) out there is that they ascribe “free trade” to every problem.
Speaking of Wal-Mart, I was shopping for a beer cooler for the weekend. Wal-Mart has them, and they are made in the U.S.A.
They’ve been branded “Walmart” since 2008, 1rudeboy.
Good for you, scouring out the domestic merchandise in a veritable sea of Chinese plastic.
I’m shocked. In a good way, of course, but ... shocked.
It's not perceived as being a destination to shop for merchandise made in America, and for good reason.
So, when did you turn into such a nativist xenophobe, deliberately snubbing quality plastic merchandise from our fine, fine friends in China, lol?
We’ve been down this road before. China has been admitted to the WTO as of the Clinton administration. We can’t raise tariffs on China as a result, and most regulatory barriers would should erect they could appeal to the WTO.
When a country is a member of the WTO, we lose most of our own power over trade policy as a result.
Free trade agreements are merely icing on the cake above and beyond the WTO.
The single smartest thing we could do is withdraw from the WTO and negotiate trade agreements on a bi-lateral basis with individual countries. If we have a good faith partner, then sure, let’s drop all trade barriers. China is not one of those trade partners. By using only bi-lateral and not multi-lateral trade agreements, problems like China’s yuan peg could be dealt with effectively.
As it is, most of the idiotic commentary I’ve seen in the last week on China’s “decision” to “unpeg” the yuan is wishful thinking. The Chinese, with their “surprise” announcement look like they’re “listening” to Geithner, when in fact, their actual currency moves will be rather limited. The Chinese worker is demanding wage increased, which are easily accomplished with inflation or devaluation of the yuan and not with an appreciating yuan.
Yo Momma done ate it.
You’re right. The U.S. raising tariffs on Chinese tires was just a mirage. It never hapened.
Sorry, I thought you were saying that the U.S.-made coolers I saw at Wal-Mart yesterday were rebranded, somehow. I thought you didn’t know what the hell you are talking about it, and your response proves it.
So, Walmart is now a destination for shoppers seeking merchandise made in America, lol?
I think I'm finding myself entertained by this newly nativist version of 1rudeboy! Quelle surprise!
What is the brand name of your American beer cooler that you bought at Walmart, by the way? You do know what a brand name is, don't you? You know, like Walmart?
I haven’t bought a cooler yet, the ones I saw at Wal-Mart were made by Thermos, and Coleman. Are you still gonna’ stick to your “they are rebranded” BS?
WalMart doesn't carry American made stuff? You have any real numbers or is this just a feeling you have?
It’s friggin’ BS. I’m being told that I didn’t see what I saw with my own eyes.
Oh, joy. It’s the b-side of the Ambiguously Fey Duo.
Lame attempt at CYA. Really lame. Maybe you were thinking of Walmart stores outside the US, some of which still use variants of Wal-Mart.
(Or post on the internet that you cannot read).
Hey, it’s Morris Albert.
Who’s Morris Albert?
Good grief, rudester done blowed his brains out with one of them fuzzuvelvas, lol.
