Elena Kagan's senior thesis at Princeton University, recounting the history of socialist politics in New York City, cited the theories of an influential German Marxist who notoriously switched allegiances to Nazism after Adolf Hitler attained power.
Werner Sombart was widely recognized as an academic proponent of Marxism and was once praised by Karl Marx's colleague Friedrich Engels as the only German professor who understood Marx's Das Kapital. During World War I, however, Sombart endorsed Germany's "heroic" war against the "capitalist spirit" represented by England. In 1934, Sombart published Deutscher Sozialismus, which advocated the "total ordering of life" as an expression of the German Volksgeist, or "national spirit."
In the introduction to her 1981 thesis, Kagan addresses a question famously asked by Sombart: Warum gibt es in den Vereinigten Staaten keinen Sozialismus? -- "Why is there no socialism in the United States?"

AND? Did she agree with him? The post shows NO indication of such. The citations are factual, no opinionated. So, why is this a problem?
Ewwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW, being Dean of Harvard Law School simply means that she was perceived as being a good fundraiser. Other Associate Deans handle courses, academics, etc. It is NOT a position that qualifies her for anything like SCOTUS.
The fact that socialists endorsed nazis would be shocking to most people. That fact has not been forthcoming from the media in 50 years
Nothing shocking here. There’s plenty of REAL ammunition to use without duds like this.
I got an even better one for you. Benito Mussolini was praised by Lenin as the brightest young socialist in Europe back when Il Duce was active in the Italian socialist movement.
Kagans thesis is now out there? Where is the Usurper’s?
And?
We site liberal and socialist ideas and policies daily here. Is that also considered SHOCKING?
Agreed.
Ladies and gentlemen I’m sorry. Either were going to get a flaming or latent liberal out of this pick. It doesn’t matter if the people we have show a united front we lose. I want the left to upset the apple cart so bad that only extreme moonbats will support them. I want the sheeple to wake up and if several shovels upside the head is what it takes then I can live with that.
Agreed, I am a Jewish studies major, and I am sure if I write a paper on the Holocaust or Antisemitism I will probably site Mein Kampf.
“The fact that socialists endorsed nazis would be shocking to most people.”
Socialist/Progressives, Marxist, Nazis..
They are all kissing cousins, and Kagan fits right in with them.
It isn't shocking at all. Nazis are socialists. Sovietism and Nazism were competing forms of socialism, hence the antipathy between the two groups. The war between Stalin and Hitler was thus a religious war between two Socialist sects.
Barack Obama didn't attend Princeton, to my knowledge. His wife's thesis is out there, demonstrating that quality of product is not required as long as the topic is sufficiently PC. (For example, IIRC, the second paragraph led with a sentence containing three major grammatical errors. And it wasn't just form...the content was weak, too.)

Trotsky said as much. He pointed out that the competing ideologies drew recruits from the same people, but the Nazis attracted people who still had something to lose and wanted to preserve their status, while the communists drew people who had nothing.
OH NOES! I CITED TROTSKY!
Hey, did you know that power flows from the barrel of a gun?
She is not very smart. Content aside, her public addresses are painfully crude and awkward.
I agree with you.
Um, what ? Was her follow-up paper entitled, 'Why is there no illegals in the United States ?'
SHOCKING!
He endowed a school which became adjunct to Frankfurt University, in effect a George Soros' style think tank in the mold of the 1920s, and it was staffed, I believe, exclusively by Jewish intellectuals which is significant because when Hitler came to power in 1933 these Jewish communists fled Germany. Many of them landed in New York City and became influential at Columbia University, RCA, and other institutions in New York City. Other practitioners of the doctrines which became known collectively as "political correctness" found employment in Hollywood Harvard and other places where they were able to exert, I believe, profound influence.
These are the people who identified the nationstate, the church, the family, the idea of objective history, as obstacles to the ultimate victory of communism and therefore undertook to popularize competing values to undermine these obstacles and clear the way for communism. So we have internationalism, atheism, the assault against Christianity, feminism, the assault against the role of the father in the family etc. we have also seen many of our great universities liberal arts and social science curricula virtually destroyed by various excrescences of political correctness.
Does anyone on the board have any insight as to why Kagan's thesis on the advent of socialism in New York City ends with the arrival of the refugees from the diaspora of the Frankfurt school?
