I would argue that “Air Coryell” started with Jim Hart to Mel Gray, Jackie Smith, Pat Tlley, Terry Metcalf and the outstanding Cardinal offensive line led by Dierdorf, Dobler,Young,Finney,Banks & Co.

RIP. “Air” sent fits of frustration against my beloved Cleveland Browns for years.

He was one of the great inovators in the game. Perhaps most famous for the early 80’s San Diego Chargers. That 1981 playoff game between the Chargers & Dolphins was an amazing amazing amazing game. Then of course we all remember the Freezer Bowl against the Bengals when his offense was shall we say blown away by a wind chill of 59 below.

Condolences and prayers for his family.
That’s back when I used to watch the NFL, and it was worth watching. Those were the days.

The last time I watched a football game (1981) it
was “Air Coryell” with Dan Fouts at QB. He was a
good coach. RIP.

Coryell was one of the true pioneers of the modern game. Kind of a shame that he never won a SB. He used to wear the ugliest polyester pants in the world. Bright red ones when he was with the Cards, and some houndstooth check ones, also.
