THE dad and brother of an Asian Harry Potter actress have been charged with threatening to kill her. Pretty Afshan Azad, 23 — who plays Padma Patil in the hit films — was allegedly attacked at her home in Manchester.

Her father Abul Azad, 54, and brother Ashraf Azad, 28, appeared at Manchester magistrates' court on Tuesday accused of threatening to kill Afshan.

Ashraf is also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The case was adjourned until later this month for committal proceedings to crown court.

Afshan is said to have been attacked at her home in Longsight, Manchester, on May 21 this year.

(Aslama means to submit and Islam is the imperative form of the verb)

[Arabic 'islām, submission, from 'aslama... to surrender, resign oneself, from Syriac 'ašlem , to make peace, surrender, derived stem of šlem, to be complete; see šlm in Semitic roots.]

From your link:
1.Islam and Muslim are both words used to describe the religion revealed to the Prophet Mohammed.

2.Islam and Muslim both have the same origin in the Arabic verb s-l-m.

3.Islam is the act of submitting to the will of God whereas a Muslim is person who participates in the act of submission.

4.To be correctly used, Islam or Islamic should describe the religion and its subsequent cultural concepts whereas Muslim should only describe the followers of the religion of Islam.

In other words, according to your source, while there are differences in usage of the two words, it is quite fair to say that "all Muslims are Islamic", as a shorthand for "all Muslims follow the Islamic religion".

If you're just arguing syntax, that's fine, and I agree with you. A person is a Muslim, the religion is Islam. But semantically, any Muslim is a practitioner of Islam, by the definition of the words involved.

Just surrender and be done with it.

You’re welcome, (insert name or description of body orifice here).
I see you still don't get it...I never thanked you!
I didn't need, nor want, your help or assistance. If I had I would've asked for help.
I'm perfectly capable of carrying my own water without you butting in saying what you think I meant.

Aside...I'm an ogre, not an ice cream store manager. {;^)

I guess subtlety or sarcasm aren’t your strong suits. Well, when someone gets jumped on for making a statement that makes no sense whatsoever in the way they say it, and it’s on a topic I have a bit of knowledge about, my impulse is to try and help. No worries, you’re on your own.

> They must have been at a loss for words when “Wog” fell out of favor.

LOLOL!!

Little Sally came to the teacher sobbing and said, “Teacher, Johnny called me a cow.”

Teacher said, “Well, if you can spell ‘cow’, you can go home and have the rest of the day off.” Sally easily spelled cow, stuck her tongue out at Johnny and went home.

Minutes later, little Betty came to the teacher sobbing saying, “Teacher, Johnny called me a pig.”

Teacher said, “Well, if you can spell ‘pig’, you can go home and have the rest of the day off.” Betty easily spelled pig, stuck her tongue out at Johnny and went home.

Almost immediately after that, little Abdullah ran up to the teacher crying and said, “Teacher, Johnny called me a wog.”

Teacher said, “Well, Abdullah, you can go home and have the rest of the day off if you can spell ‘racial discrimination’.”

What do they call people from Asia? Orientals? Celestials?

The vast majority of Muslims in England are either from Pakistan or from India, which are indisputably in Asia. So it's not inaccurate. They tend to call people from SE Asia, China, Japan, etc. Orientals.

Your scholarly reply is appreciated, but you must understand that very few people will ever differentiate Muslims to the degree that you are.

Your view is tantamount (in most people’s common understanding) to saying that not all Christians are of the Christian faith. The point is, the common understanding is that Muslims are by definition, people who follow the Islamic religion.

If you want to take on the task of re-educating the entire population about the finer points of Islam, be my guest. 99.9% will continue to call the believers of Islam, Muslims.

I know. I'll stick to the "all Arabs aren't Muslims" in the future.

Never forget, never surrender!
